On January 26th, 2005, my purse was stolen at around 5:15am -5:30am. Just as I was reporting it stolen and cancelling all my cards, guess who calls?

That's right!!! The bank. They ask me if I have used my card in the past hour or so. I said, "No. I was just calling you to report my card stolen." Them, "At 5:26am. your card was used at the 7-11 ATM machine in the amount of $301.50. Then at 5:34am. you card was used at the Jokers Wild casino ATM in the amunt of $203.00.
Since you did not authorize these transactions, we will replace your money within 24-48 hours." Me, "Thank you so much!! Everything was taken. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!"

Well the next day, I got a call from an 'investigator' and he proceeded to tell me that 'I let this person use my card and take the money just to get more money from them. The bank will NOT be reimbursing me any money and it was an inside job.' I was, and still am, very upset with this.

By the time I reported it to the police, they said it looked bad on me for taking so long to report. I explained to them that the bank said they would pay, decided not to, and I want my money back. Investigator said I would not press charges. He lied!!!!

To this day, I still haven't got my money and the cops still haven't done anything either. Not the first time B of A has ripped me off. I'D like to..........

PIN number at casino ATM's

#4Consumer Suggestion

Here on the gulf coast we have ATMs in all the Casinos, both regular and those that are prominently marked ""Cash Advance Without PIN number needed"

They charge a higher interest rate than when used with a PIN.(Not a concern to thieves)

I do not use these, but I would be surprised if they are in the gulf coast Casinos and not also in Vegas and elsewhere.

No PIN needed.

Have a lawyer write a letter

Have a lawyer write a letter explaining the situation and that you want the money back into your account.

The thing is, how did the thief know you personal identification number (PIN)? That is required to do cash withdrawals.

Get your money back

Marie,

After reading your report a few times, I thought I might be able to help.

You say your purse was stolen between 5:15 and 5:30 give or take a little.

You said the bank called you after the fact to ask you if you had used your card in the last hour, and told you that two ATM transactions had taken place and the times, locations and amounts of both transactions.

First, where were you when your purse was stolen? If you were in a public place, go there and ask if they have video monitors for security. If so, try to get the tape or a copy made during the time that you were in ther establishment.

Second, go to the 7-11 and the casino and get copies of there video tapes as well.
Third, who knows your pin number? No one, and I mean no one is that lucky to be able to guess what your pin number is. It's not impossible to guess, but highly unlikely.

This might also be why the cops are suspicious of you in the first place. It is possible that if you had used your card at an ATM prior to your purse being stolen that day, you were observed and followed by the thief who, at that point, new your pin number.

This scenario is most likely, especially around Las Vegas and surrounding area's. It happens all the time.

So go back to where your purse was stolen, get video and follow the other steps I suggested. Don't depend on the cops to do anything because if they suspect anyone right now, it would most likely be you.

One last thing, if the cops are right about you doing this yourself or with an accomplice, eventually they will get ahold of video them selves. I am not a fan of cops in any way shape or form, but if they are right, you might want to consider getting out of town quickly.
