In February of this year, my husband and I applied for a balance transfer through Barclaycard World Mastercard.  They were offering a zero percent interest for an extended period of time, and we wanted to take advantage of that.  We filled out the online application and upon sending the app, a message appeared that said a decision would be rendered in about 10 days.   After about a week, we received communication from Barclaycard that stated we had been denied.  So, we applied for, and received, a small personal loan (through a bank) and paid off the 2 credit cards that we had been wanting to balance transfer to Barclaycard.

About 2-3 weeks after receiving the denial letter, we received an email that stated a credit card from Barclaycard was going to be arriving.  The card arrived in an envelope, with the usual disclosure information, but nothing else.  Then, a couple of weeks after receiving the card, the 2 credit cards that had been paid off suddenly showed a credit balance.  One for $3000 and one for $4000.  We called the credit cards and called our bank, but neither of them could explain where this "mystery money" had come from.  The one credit card company suggested that it was a Billpay of sorts, but since we do not use Billpay, that didn't explain the mystery.

Yesterday, the mystery was "solved," (due to the fact that we check our accounts daily with CreditKarma.com), but it only added to the confusion.  Barclaycard, for reasons unknown to only them, approved the balance transfer request after communicating to us that it had been denied.  They sent the money to the credit cards that had been paid off and dinked us for a lovely $210 in balance transfer fees.  Upon finding out what had happened, we called the two credit card companies who immediately put into motion the paperwork to send the monies back to Barclaycard.  Barclaycard, on the other hand, is being completely nasty about the whole thing.  They claim that we are lying, that no communication had ever been sent from them stating that we had been denied and, in fact, they had sent out a "congrats, you have been approved letter" complete with a lovely Welcome Kit.  Ummm....No They Didn't.  That is what I told them.  The nasty lady on the phone then demanded that I NOT speak to her in "that" tone of voice (What tone of voice?) and stated that we had to write a letter explaining the entire incidence, in its entirety, and fax it to them.  So, we did.

Stay Away...FAR FAR AWAY....from anything that says Barclaycard.  If the balance transfer fees don't get credited to our account, I am very interested in pursuing some sort of legal action.  What they did was wrong.

Well, We never heard back from Barclaycard (Big Surprise there), but they did remove one of the fees (the $90) one.  However, we are still out the $120 fee because the one credit card company sent us the money directly, as they thought that it had been a mistake on our end (due to Billpay).  However, once our bank verified that the money did NOT originate from them, and then finding out that the money came from Barclaycard in the form of a balance transfer, we immediately contacted Barclaycard and sent the money back to them.  Since we sent the money back, and not the credit card, apparently that means that the balance transfer fee still is our obligation.

I am just SO DONE with the entire thing that I am paying the $120 fee to never, ever, EVER AGAIN have to deal with Barclaycard.  Oh My Word.  Worst Experience!!!!!!

Keep in mind....if you do want to go with a credit card company, may I suggest Chase VISA?  No, I do not work for them, nor does any of my family, friends, neighbors, acquaintances past or present.  :)   Customer Service A++!!  Unlike Barclaycard.  Their rating is an F--
