Barrett Jackson the big TV car auctioneer isn't what it appears to be.Their appraiser told me my car would fetch $70-$80k at their auction and it would do better without a reserve. When I was delivering the car, they noticed the dash Vin tag wasn't there. The car was a complete restoration and it must have gotten lost. They helped me locate a glass company and referred me to a guy who could make a Vin tag and provide original rivets. Barrett Jackson employee, Sean helped through out the process with pulling the car from the main viewing area to way out back, away from the crowds. Affordable Glass came, pulled the windshield and then the Vin tag was put on in front of Sean from Barrett Jackson. (who volunteered to put it on.) The car was reassembled and two days latter put on the auction block with no disclosure of the Vin tag mishap. They spent 28 seconds on my car in the auction versus 3+ minutes on other cars., my car is $150k build and beautiful car. It went for $55k and the auction was ended abruptly. (TV commercial) They never showed the under carriage which was highly detailed. 95% of the crowd is not bidders but spectators watching that buy a ticket to come in. Barrett Jackson gets a 10% buyers premium and an 8% sellers fee. I had offers in the $60's for my car in Maine. So I paid, $2100 to ship it to Florida, air flight and hotel, plus they charged me $1200 for putting it on it "prime time". Don't list a car in their auction, go to buy only. Also on the gala night there were a lot of hookers working the room. No one seemed to care and just let it go. Speaking to locals who work the show every year say it's a routine thing. PS - Before Barrett Jackson gets their panties in a bunch, I recorded everything, the phone call with the appraisal amount, the windshield and Vin tag operation with Sean the employee and have all my text messages with Brian Rose, employee of Barrett Jackson. It would be interesting to hear what the Florida State Police who license and investigate car dealers and auctioneers would have to say about this.
