Having worked in food service for a few years I went to the north subway here in town and found a few things off about it
1 they were selling bags of chips that expred in august 1st, october 4th, and november 12th just yesterday ( 12/31/06)
2 i watched as they treated the customers to 3 olives on a 6 inch sandwich and 6 on a footlong sandwich when people asked for more they were chared an additional 30 cents per 3 olives as well as watching the manager ( or what ever they are in the green striped shirts) were treating and dressing a employee down right there because of a "bad close" the night before and almost watched as they walked off in tears.

I knew a guy who worked there and he was " put on a suspension " for the same item and was told he had 2 days to contact the manager from thursday he called on a number of occasions and always got the fax machine that was hooked up Finally he called the managers cell phone on friday and was informed that he had " voulantarily quit" due to not communicating with her ( as he had been trying since early tuesday december 26th when he got the call from his roomate to talk with her) now after all that is said and done he is being reduced to minimum wage for the hours he worked in the previous pay period.
3 is that the service is horrid they have no idea as to what it means to offer a customer some service.

I don't know what the laws are in your state, but in Illinois a former employer can only verify dates of employment. The employer is not to comment on anything else. Have your friend check the laws. This Shelly person might be in some big trouble.

I took my friend who was listed here as the employee that was terminated for .. insert favorite reason here... to an interview today he was taken aside by tha manager just out of my earshot and was told basically the following
" we contacted shelly ( note here he told them not to contact her) and she had NOTHING good to say about you if this had been a reference you would not be hired"

Also she has been spreading malicious rumors about him saying he is unworkable with etc,etc, this said i would hire him in a heart beat if it was my place to hire him i've known him for many years he on occasion doesnt listen to the managers but then again.. if theres no manager there then there is no manager to report a problem to, hence subways reasoning, if this continues there will be a lawsuit ut of it
also one other note ( hes here reading this) he metioned that hsi last check was cut by a minimum of 10 hours if not more
