Complaint Review: Batten The Hatches

Batten The Hatches/MT2 Custom Design Incomplete Job and Deceptive Work Lake Hopatcong New Jersey

Dropped off 2 wide rear cushions for a bowrider. Agreed on $475 for both, rebacked, new edgings, and drilled for proper hinge mounting in line with old backings. I received new backings, USED edgings, NO hinge mounting holes, and $10 off. They admitted that they "forgot" about the contract specs. No choice but to pay the $465 because the boat's engine compartment is exposed without these cusions. Considering reporting to the BBB.

Thank you, Maria. It seems that we are both victims of a failed entrepreneur's poor judgement, in light of the Batten The Hatch's greater history. Let me publicly propose that the title of this Report be changed to read, "MT2 Custom Design" only. I believe this is the exclusive name of the failed owner's business. I don't know whether such a retroactive change is possible.

Regarding the seats... I ended up docking the boat for the remainder of the season, and paying general marine mechanics to perform the seat installations along with winterization. I'm still a bit amazed that the MT2 Custom Design crew would be silly enough to dispose of a custom template before its copy was complete. I've reupholostered smaller seats myself and I really must say that, as a mechancally inclined person, the most difficult part has to be operating the sewing machine.

My name is Maria and I am now the owner (again) of Batten the Hatches. I owned the business for 23 years before selling it in 2013. I I ended up buying it back September 1st of this year. This work was done by the previous owner. I would just like to state that in my 23 years of owning the business, there was never a bad review to be found anywhere under my watch so seeing this report was troubling to me. I have a great rapport with all of my customers and I make it a point to make sure each and every one is satisfied before they leave my shop. It's unfortunate and I'm sorry that you had a bad experience but please be assured that is not how I run my business. It may be too late but I invite you to come back if you ever need any other work done and I'll be happy to help you.

Cannot change terms after the fact

I dropped off the cushions. The boat was never on site, which was readily apparent when I arrived carrying cushions and not towing a boat. This is why predrilling was specified in the mutually agreed terms. Those terms cannot be changed to suit Batten The Hatches/MT2 Custom Design's' forgetfulness and mistakes after the fact.

The fact that I had to pay in order to regain possession of my cushions does not mean that I am happy. The fact that the old seat backing was prematurely trashed before the holes could be patterned limiited my options. "I forgot," "Sorry," and $10 do not honor our original terms.

If Batten The Hatches/MT2 Custom Design is willing to bear the expense of doing the work on the water in Lake Wallenpaupack, PA, where the boat has been this whole time, I will have the cushions there waiting for installation. If so, I am willing to settle for the used edging compensated by the existing $10 off, Only then will the mutually agreed terms be upheld.

I will not be loading the boat on a trailer, pulling it from the lake, towing it into NJ, towing it back to PA, and relaunching it, due to Batten The Hatches/MT2 Custom Design's forgetfulness and mistakes.

Offered to install

We agreed on the price. We compleated the job. Yes we forgot to mark the hing holes but we offered to install if the customer had any problems. We back all our work. If this customer was not saticfied he should of taken our offer of installing them. There was no argument from him when he left our shop that he was dissatisfied. Sorry for the trouble we may have caused you.
