I was contacted by Bay Area Credit Service LLC. for an account with AFS-HOV which is all reported on my credit report. Though I disputed it through the credit bureaus it was "verified". I am trying to improve my credit score to buy a house so I decided to accept their settlement letter.

I called them and set up the first payment of $55.88 towards the settlement amount. After I gave them my payment info they told me they couldn't accept the payments they originally set up with me as they said the letter stated the settlement was only good for 30 days. The letter states I have to accept the settlement amount within 30 days but didn't specify the time I had to pay it in.

I couldn't afford to do anything other than the payments I had set up. So I figured I was out the money for the first payment and couldn't do anything else. I received a massive amount of calls from them daily. I finally answered and they agreed to take a second payment of $68.32 and then a 3rd and final payment 2 weeks later. When I contacted them at the end of the two weeks they said it was $108 for the last payment.

When I questioned why I hadn't received the statement from their company to show my amount paid and what was left they transferred me to a manager. The manager then informed me that they sent the statement and I would have to pay $192 to settle the account. I told them I never received any paper work and that I wasn't paying anymore that the $108 as per our agreement.

After a long argument I hung up on him. They called back 10 minutes later and I let my husband answer. They agreed to take the payment and said the account would show up as "settled paid in full" on my report and that they would send me the receipt.

That was on the 24th of October. I still haven't received anything and when I spoke with them tonight they again said they sent it and again verified my address. I was told they would send it again but for some reason I don't think I will ever see it. Now I'm out $232 and I don't think that it will ever show on my credit report.

THEY ONLY RIP OFF - Now you have restarted the clock on the debt that you probably did not owe in the first place - WHAT YOU DID WAS STUPID!

www.budhibbs.com - DO SOME RESEARCH AT THIS CONSUMER ADVOCATE WEBSITE.

If you would take some time to research these things, you could have avoided a lot of hassle and aggravation..
