Bay Point Marina, in Marblehead, Ohiom, accepted my money and I placed my boat there happily. The marina is very nice and has a resort-like feel. However, when a fellow boater brought to my attention that she could not get a pool pass because they were limiting the number of clients who could use the pool I was shocked. She stated that she thought she paid for the pool on the contract for in the section that states "Resort Fees". I thought the same thing! So we determined (by talking with Office Staff) that the dock fee covers nothing and you have to pay to use the beach which is at the cost of $495.00 on top of the Dock Fee of over $2,000.00.

In discussing this with the other 5 new boaters around me, every single one of them stated that upon talking with Marina staff they were told the Dock comes with the beach access. However, later we come to find out that the dock does not include access and you have to buy the access to the beach with a "Resort Fee". When I spoke with a particular individual about her complaint to the office she told me that she was denied the pool even though she was never given an option (they never sent out paperwork for those who purchased the dock in April 2013, this was checked by 3 staff members in the office). The employee who worked on her contract never sent her the paperwork for the pool membership. I, along with the others, were also never sent the paperwork.

When we originally called the sales girl told us we could have access to the pool with a fee. It was only after we already paid, that we found out the confusing paperwork, as well as, the incompetent staff and poorly planned Marina management where not willing to fix their obvious mistakes and false representation of what the Marina offers. There was no mention of limited pool memberships, what the "Resort Fee" was for, and what the process in general of acquiring access to all amentities. So my family and friends who came to this Marina with the best of intentions have now been scammed out of thousands. The false representation of the Marina not only affected me, but others as well.

And the one girl who did call the management office to complain and take action against the injustice was told they coulod not do anything for her and told her they would not even put her name on a waiting list. When I went down to be put on a list I had no problem, but I believe because she complained they denied her that. Being that she has small children who can't use the pool, while all the other kids around her can, I feel sorry for her. My friends and I believe that the representation of this Marina is horrible. Yes, there is a pool but everyone can't join! The beach access does not come with the boat dock as stated by them, you pay close to $500.00 dollars extra. The showers are poor and water pressure is not enough to get shampoo out of your hair most of the time.

There are many dock lights that are out on my dock and in three weeks they have yet to be replaced. They store the boats during winter in the parking lot of the Marina so if people choose not to put thier boats in the water, you lose your parking area. This Marina is very nice but they will promise you things and then not provide them. They will not remedy the problems they produced with the confusing contracts, flase promises of amenities, and when you do complain you are punished. Do not come to this Marina. Other Marinas may not be as nice, but I guarentee you that you would have access to all they offer. Plus, Bay Point Marina is 2x the cost of most Marinas in the area. My complaint is based on fact, it happened to me and my friends, as well as other boaters that I have met here. They will scam your money!

#2Consumer Comment

So the one item that this consumer stated is absolutely correct "The marina is very nice and has a resort like feel".  The rest is a bit askew.  This was my first year at Bay Point as well.  I signed up in February at the Boat Show.  I asked the question "What does the resort fee cover?"  they specifically told me what it covered and that every single person whether it be at the RV park or marina or the homes has to pay that fee. It does give access to beach, restaurant etc.  Without that fee, how would you keep the general public out and it would be super crowded?

The bad news is for 2014 it goes up to $550.  However, we have done expansive comparisons on other marinas and this consumer is off on it being the most expensive.  There is NO other marina in the Western basin with a beach, restaurant, park, store etc.  On top of that, the store is so reasonably priced it is crazy.  They sell beer and drinks for the same price you pay in a regular grocery store and don't jack up the prices.  BTW the dock contracts are super simple.  Name, Size of boat, Hull number of boat, how many family members.  You then pick the size of dock and figure out the dock total.  You then have a line that says add $495 for resort fee.

On to the pool.  I can't tell you how many times I received an email as well as paperwork stating that that the "pool memberships are filling up fast".  I received construction updates, as well as Face Book posts and mail.  I was bummed that you had to pay for pool memberships, but I also understand why.  If the whole resort has access to that pool it would be a mad house.  The pool is not that big!  I wish I would have signed up for it, but by the time I tried it was sold out.  My fault, but I was given plenty of warning.

The showers, well this is kind of funny.  There are some showers with crazy high water pressure and others are indeed low water pressure.  Not sure why this is, but you just figure out which ones are good and which are not.  Just quirky I guess.  As far as boats being parked in lot.  By the third week of June all boats were in the water.  Not a single boat remained in any parking space.  They make you launch by then.  All my dock lights worked, guess I was lucky.

The bottom line is this is a great family place.  They have a lot of events for the kids, on a windy day when you can't go boating the kids love playing in the waves at the beach.  The restaurant has great food and is a ton of fun to watch games and look at the lake.  The store is a great convinience. The Tiki bar by the pool is fun to have drinks at (and you dont need to be a pool memebr).  The fishing is great off the rocks for bass which the kids have a blast catching.  I can go on and on.  I never write reviews or rebuttals, but this one I had to.

Is Bay Point "pricey"? Sure, but not twice as any other good marina.  And the security is top notch.  Someone tried to be a "guest" under my name once.  The office called me and I said I did not know the person and they were denied entrance.  Is it perfect here?  Nothing is ever perfect (except the view), but they are always improving things and it is a nice place.

If you are a golfer watch out for the goose poop on the greens:)  I guess you could kill all the geese, but that just isn't friendly.  Everybody has their own view on things, this one just surprised me.
