This was a perfectly good working vehicle, I just wanted to make sure that the AC was running at a 100% especially here in AZ

I specialize in auto electric and I disassemble dashboards often. There is no reason if a repair shop knows what they are doing, and take pride in their work...too not only use every proper clip, screw and bolt, but to replace any ones that are missing or left out from the factory. The vehicle should leave BETTER and tighter then when it came it.

Let me see if I can help with some of the electrical issues...

Rear window wiper does not work...

either a fuse, or they did not plug the harness in properly. Have a real auto electrician look at it, or better yet, a good stereo guy. They deal with this kind of work everyday and should have access to wiring guides.

2. No reception in the stereo

Those jeeps have an antenna junction in the passenger kick, they tend to go bad due to corrosion. Since they were near it when under the dash, they may have unplugged it, or just by messing with it caused a problem. Have a stereo guy look at it, should not take much to fix. I would charge under 20 bucks.

3. Front Windshield Wash washes back windshield and vs versa.

Plugs reversed in the wrong spots at the switches most likely, stereo guy can handle this easy as long as it is a pro and not some wannabe kid.

4. Screws missing in the dash.

Have the stereo guy replace those..they specialize in dash removal, just make sure you use a good installer, check for certifications.

5. Wiring hangs down to the running board.

Have the stereo guy check those as well.

6. Condensation drain pipe not installed.

Is it missing? If not plug it back in yourself. It is just a rubber hose so if it is missing get one from an autoparts store. Cheap fix.

7. Some kind of sensor broke free from fan housing.

Most likely the temperature sensing bulb..it clamps onto the radiator on the engine side of it underhood. In the worst case if the bracket is missing or busted, you can zip tie it in place and it will still function properly.

8. AC system failed the next day

Can't help you there, this place should cover all that under warranty but I have concern that you may need to cut your losses and find a better mechanic.

congratalations-sort of--you have a legit rip off report---it seems to me they just did a poor job in repairs---the sensor hanging from the blower motor is the resisitor which controls the fan speed of the blower----does the blower work????---if not you can replace this yourself--very easy-usually 2 bolts----in any case---i think it was kind of shady that they could not eat the evaparaotor core--if they broke it--they need to replace it------by offering a "deal" on it is unacceptable----there are many wires and things of this nature under the dash--which could explain the loss of components---now---i do not have all the answers and therefore cannot tell you what you should do in this matter---i am just here to agree that this is in fact a f**ked up story--and i to am a mechanic----it seems to me the shop pretty much opened up a can of worms---if your ac was working properly-then there should of been no need to replace parts cause this is what is normally done--being the orifice tube and whatever else there was---this shop did it to themselves by tryin to fix what ddn't need to be fixed and they had an excuse to sell by saying you should have replaced this and that when you did that---the shop got what came to them--and unfortantely--they do not want to accept it by eating the cost---now--like every rip off it seems there is always both parties that are wrong in some way somehow---with this--i hope you learned your lesson in life--being--if nothing is wrong(and your ac was working properly as you say in your letter to the owner)--then why would you bring it to get checked up---that is like walking into a shop with nothing wrong and just say-hey--can you take my money-i have nothing better to do with it----bottom line----DO NOT FIX WHAT IS NOT BROKEN---unfortanetly some mechanics like to do this just to get a little bit more money---the sad part is---it is always the owners who bank more of there shady practice-so why mechanics do this is just stupid to me and causes them more grief in the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 1996 Jeep Cherokee Inv #19018

Dear: Mr Bayz

On May 20th 2010 I brought my Jeep over to your establishment for an AC Check, please keep in mind that this vehicle was in working order, including the Air Conditioning.

After review by your manager Mike Pochoema, I was informed that the system is "working and blowing cold air" but being that the AC Compressor has been recently replaced the Expansion Block and RecieverDryer/Accumalator should be replaced to. Your manager explanation for this was that they tend to get metal shaving in them when the compressor go bad, thus inhibiting the system from functioning at a 100%. I was quoted $267.00 for the work.

Concerned with this issue I Okayed the work order, later in the day, Mike called me to in inform me that in the process of removing the Orifice Valve they broke the connections to the Evaporator Core. As you know I was very upset! I expressed to him and you, how I didnt understand why it wasnt brought to my attention that this could happen and that I could incur addition cost.

Per our conversations it was brought to my attention that to repair it would require dismantling my dash to remove and replace the Evaporator Core.

I expressed to you the following:

1. That I should not have to pay for this.

2. The idea of someone dismantling my dash did sit well with me, mainly because my experience with this is that it is never put back the same, "Screws are missing Clip are Cracked etc"

3. My lack of confidence in the ability of your mechanics to perform this work properly, due to where we currently stand with this vehicle.

Ultimately after an extensive conversation with you, I decided it would be in my best interest to recover my vehicle "now in disarray no operating AC" from you and seek repairs elsewhere. At no cost and my old parts in hand.

Shortly after that conversation Mike called me insisting on giving BayZ Auto Service the opportunity to make thing right, after a conversation with him that covered the Three Items listed above, his response was this:

1. That I would have to cover the cost of the Evaporator Core "Only", no additional labor cost, $270.00.

2. His main mechanic would be doing all the work, "familiar with this vehicle".

3. That I would not incur any additional damage.

After some more I thought it would be in the best interest of both parties to get this past us and move on even though I was not to crazy about an additional $270.00 in cost.

So I granted him his opportunity to repair this vehicle

The following day, May 21, 2010 4:03pm I received my vehicle from your service center, everything repaired!

So I was told $627.05 heres the list of stuff that is now wrong with it:

1. Rear window wiper does not work

2. No reception in the stereo

3. Front Windshield Wash washes back windshield and vs versa.

4. Screws missing in the dash.

5. Wiring hangs down to the running board.

6. Condensation drain pipe not installed.

7. Some kind of sensor broke free from fan housing.

8. AC system failed the next day

What does it say on the invoice?

Obviously they charged you $627.00 for something. You state you brought it in for an A/C check-up, whatever that is. Did they quote you for this "check-up" before you gave them the vehicle? What did they charge you to do exactly and did you authorize it?

You claim the A/C was working, so what did they need to mess with the wipers and radio for?

Obviously they should be responsible to get those working normal again if they caused the damages, but I think you are leaving some information out of the report. If the A/C was working when you brought the vehicle in, I would think the only thing they would really have to check, is the condition and pressure of the refrigerant, the belt that turns the compressor, and for leaks..all done under the hood. To check if there is any debris blocking up the air flow throw the condenser, that is also under the hood next to the radiator.

But if the A/C was working, what is it you wanted them to "check-up" on? Even if they decided to do a  evac. & recharge, which would typically not be necessary if the AC was working, would be around $120.00.

Usually to check up A/C I can do this myself...I turn it on and listen for any strange noises, and put my hand in front of a vent to see if it's blowing cold...that's it..checked up. If it is not blowing cold..then it needs to be checked for things like leaks, blockage or  bad compressor/ belt. Also if it is blowing warm, not blowing at all, or not blowing out of the proper vent settings..it could be vents, blower motor or switches are the cause of the problem, and only then would they need to get under the dash and mess with the electronics and/or blower housing.
