On July 31, 2012, BB&T acquired BankAtlantic, where I was a happy customer for over 7 years. During the acquisition process, BB&T Bank failed to transfer all of the customer data files for inactive debit cards that would have normally remained linked to BankAtlantics current checking accounts. As a direct result of BB&T Banks incomplete record keeping, a refund check in the amount of $495 that was issued on 11/26/12 to my inactive debit card account was LOST and never correctly credited to my current checking account transferred from BankAtlantic to BB&T Bank, nor were the funds returned to the merchant that issued the refund.

Even though the merchant and I have provided BB&T Bank with records showing that the funds were sent to BB&T Bank on 11/26/12 and deducted from the merchant account on 11/29/12, BB&T Bank refuses to acknowledge that they received the funds and also refuses to accept any responsibility for losing the funds directly caused by their incomplete record keeping.

The only solution offered from BB&T Bank is for me to request a second payment from the merchant, which the merchant rightfully refuses to grant because they already paid the BB&T Bank in full. I have every reason to suspect that the funds were sent to a BB&T Bank suspense account. BB&T Banks refusal to correct their error and properly credit my account after 60 days constitutes theft of funds.
