BBT (Branch Bank and Trust) YOU CAN TELL THE BANK FROM HELL: BBT Easley South Carolina
After going through the nightmare with Compuserve and BBT in 2000 -- see below -- we stuck with BBT because all our online banking was there -- for which they charged us $80 a month -- and it seemed like a Very Big Deal to change all our accounts, addresses and passwords.
But "enough was enough" when I received a personal check as payment for a job, and they refused to DEPOSIT IT IN THE BANK unless we had a compensating balance in our checking account!
Yes, that's right -- I couldn't even deposit the check! "Bank policy," they said.
I called their hotline twice, and got the same response: "new policy" and "I've never heard of that." Figures the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing.
Finally we found a branch that hadn't heard of this newly-mandated policy and were able to deposit that check.
BBT: YOU CAN TELL THE BANK FROM HELL!
We now do business with CCB, who are courteous, pleasant and treat us well. Their online banking is real-time: I can open my computer banking and see the exact minute that my husband's been out putting money in the account -- and by the same token, when we come back from shopping with a debit card, we can see the money's already been deducted.
