The first day I walked into the condo I was met by a digusting smell- simliar to that of an old vacant building- the furniture was grossly old, recliners in the living room where ripped up and had rusted metal staples hanging from the bottom- The backdoor- now this was the worst part- the humidity on the coast caused our door only to stick to the door jam and thus you had to throw your foot on the wall to pull it up open. This was for Beachgate 1 where stayed- The view was gorgous but the room was just nasty- There were stains and splatters on the wall, no cleaning supplies, no trash bags, no dust pan ( we are bringing in sand??) The condo has wall air conditioning units that had paint peeling off the sides- knowing how old the room was worried me it may be lead based paint- speaking of paint- the kitchen was half painted brown and white- very sloppy work. The couches consisted of nasty old futons- nothing was cleaned under- I look behind doors, chairs- it was dusty with pieces of trash. They have two swimming pools- one has tons of violations in terms of what it is lacking to be up to the state's requirements- big time law suit for someone if their kid drowns- The outlets in the room- were not screwed in tightly- this worried me as a safety issue having kids- The paint was also peeling around the bathtub- While cooking out I looked up and notice the terrace above had severly rusted hinges and could probably fall on my anytime- I eventually bought air freshner and beach towels to lay on as the place was so filthy- when we mention it too staff the response to the door was " You can rub some dishwashing soap on it and to make it open a little easier- Dishwashing Soap was the only cleaning product in the whole condo- The room should have never been rented under these conditions- The staff mention there are three owners involved and they have been informed numerous times of the grossness of it-- As we were happily checking out a lady was demanding a feedback form on the front desk- The office printer was broken and they fought and fought to avoid giving her one- This place needs help- Its maybe ok if you are an 18yr on spring break- but for 220- a night it is better off on camping on the beach-- atleast you don't fear lead poisoning, disease written blankets and fabric, and falling balconys. It's not safe for families and these people are stealing your money- you will kick yourself once you see your room-

Kelly. Thank you for your comments. We did perform badly during your stay with us.

As individually owned condominiums we try to work diligently with the owners to make constant upgrades and enhancements to their units. Feedback like yours is very useful in that regard. While many guests embrace the more rustic nature of Bldg 1 and ask for it again and again because of it's great views, many do not and prefer the units in our newer buildings. While it is an older unit, don't worry, no lead paint anywhere at Beachgate.

Good news, the owner of this unit, as well as all the others in Bldg 1 have refurbished their units to bring them more up to date. Newly painted, new furniture, new fixtures, etc.

Sounds as though your housekeeping was terrible. Finding good housekeepers on the island is always a challenge, but we've been successful at acquiring some really good ones since your stay. We've also instituted new training programs and more rigorous inspections prior to the next guest checking in. In all cases though, if you complained to the front desk about the cleanliness of your room they should always come over for a reclean to your satisfaction.

I'm certain we don't have any code violations in our swimming pools, unless our inspector isn't aware of some items that caught your eye. Naturally, the safety and security of our guests is a top priority for us. I posed your letter to him as a challenge, but he was unable to find any violations.

The terrace above your unit is completely safe. The rusted hurricane straps are simply a fact of life in a coastal environment. We inspect them twice each year to make certain the oxidation is superficial and that they are still working.

Out of 46 condominiums, you had the misfortune of staying in one of two that had yet to be renovated and updated. If all the other units weren't full we would have happily moved you. At the very least we should have sent two housekeepers over to do additional cleaning to try and make up for the "age spots" in the unit.

Once again, I am sorry that your stay was so unpleasant.
