This is by far the worst experience I've ever had with a "professional". I called Beacon because they claimed to fix grinder pumps, mine was clogged and simply needed to be cleaned out. The motor ran fine but it didn't pump waste out, pretty obviously a clog some where. I set up an appointment the next day which then came and went so I gave them a call. Oops, they forgot to register any of my information or send anyone out to me! Strike one.
Beacon sends me "Mike" who was in the Navy fixing plumbing issues and falling into drain holes. Mike, the supposed expert, has never seen my particular type of pump before. Uh oh.
I offer to lend him a hand and point him in what I think is the right direction to clean out the pump. We end up accidentally opening up the motor and dumping oil out to which Mike replies "It's fine, as long as there's a little bit left." Uuuh, okay Mike. I'm skeptical but whatever.

We open up the rest of the pump and then put it back together after not finding a clog. We then test the pump with the electronic guts still hanging out and it flushes fine, hooray! We decide to test it 4-8 times times before putting the pieces all back together. We then snap the lid back on then I notice that Mike has forgotten to put a piece back in, he is obviously in a hurry and doesn't want to be here. After he gets the piece back in, he starts fiddling with the electrical bits WITHOUT UNPLUGGING THE MACHINE. Surprise surprise, we hear a zap and smell smoke and then the machine won't run. Mike then goes outside to call his superviser.

After the call, Mike comes back in and tells me "We'll get this resolved. I'll have someone call you tomorrow and we'll get you a replacement that is equivalent." Then Mike rushed out without even leaving me an invoice.

The next day comes and leaves with no call and then I have to wait until Monday to talk to the customer service rep. I call twice before I get to talk to him, apparently lunch lasts from 2pm to 4pm.

Finally, I talk to him and he tells me that he needs to verify that a tech came out which will take over night. I then call Mike and ask him for the job number, he of course stalls and asks if he can call me back. A few minutes later I get a call from the two of them and then try to tell me that the machine must have been broken and that they'll happily credit me what they wanted to charge me to clean out the pump (a little over $400, which is INSANE) to find and install a replacement pump. No thanks, guys. I'll just go buy a replacement pump for $1000.

Take Them To Court

#2Consumer Comment

Hi, this is a very unfortunate experience and too often companies Cover Their Own Asses by not properly reporting what occurred.  I would bet that when he went outside to phone a supervisor, he wasn't even talking to anyone!!  It was a cover up.  You should have demanded to speak to the supervisor yourself, not let him leave without documentation that you were satified properly documenting the findings and the results.

But you can take them to small claims court.  I strongly suggest you do this, stand up for your rights as a consumer and don't let them get away with this because if you do they will never learn and they will continue to practice business in this manner and ripping off other homeowners.

Good Luck!
