Took our Town and Chrysler Van in for electronic/transmission trouble.  Paid the $90 diagnostic fee.

We were told that battery acid flowed over and ate the main wiring harness, possibly down to the transmission, and a bad circuit but did not know which one.  They would not be able to tell which circuit was bad until the wiring harness was fixed.  We were asked to pay an additional $400 diagnostic fee to see exactly how bad it was.  This fee would not apply to parts and labor.  We were not given any estimate as to how much it was even likely to be after the diagnostic even after being told the wiring harness was bad.

Could not afford what was potentially a very high repair bill and found another mechanic to take it to, telling him the problem.  The van was inspected for battery acid flowing down the wiring harness and to what extent.

There was No battery acid.  No corrosion, the wires were fine.  That was not the problem.

Beaman lied about the problem, wanted additional diagnostic fees after we were told what the problem was and could not even been given an estimate.

I would take your vehicle to another dealership and not even bother with this one.

Too bad they tried to take you for a ride.  Battery acid can cause alot of problems though.  Might wanna make your next battery one of those new sealed types that you can turn upside down and such.

Kindof pricey but if you dont like rust in your engine bay worth it.

Also your local autozone and the like can often do some diagnostics for free.

And you might wanna check for recalls on your vehicle.  Chrysler had alot of tranny recalls in the 90s and I think most qualify for a free fix.(not sure if theres a time limit)  You can call up a stealer and give them the vin #, and if theres a recall they will be more than happy to schedule you in, because they get a kickback for recall work.

good luck
