We recently moved and had a one piece slate pool table that broke. We called Jason (the owner of Becks Billiards) and asked him if he would be able to fix it. He said it would be easy, so we scheduled him to come out and fix the crack and re-felt the table.
When Jason showed up he came out with another guy. They brought out the wrong color, but after a while, I decided to stick with the color. The guy that Jason came out with put on his gloves and asked Jason of he was ready to move the slate because it was sitting on the table wrong. Jason said that he wasn't going to move it. When I heard all of this I assumed it was because it didn't matter, seeing as how the owner of the company said it. They continued to fix the crack and put the felt on.

A few days later my husband stopped by the shop to pick up the rails. When he got home to put them on we realized that the slate didn't line up with the pockets. The slate was about a half inch off. My husband called and spoke with Jason and he said there was nothing he could do about it. I decided to call Jason back. I asked him that since he planned on coming out to put the rails on himself if he could come back out and take a look at it. He agreed.

A few days later the guy that Jason showed up with previously and somebody else came out. He tried to slide the slate the best he could with the felt on it but it was the same result that my husband got. The pockets don't line up with each other or the slate. I called Jason while the guys were out here and he said there wasn't anything he could do about it unless we wanted to pay him to come back out, move the slate and then re-felt it.

I found that odd because a few sentences later he said that he doesn't move slate at all. I asked him if that was the case how come the guy he came out with was willing to do it and he said because he isn't the one who owns the company. I then asked him why he didn't have my husband and I move the slate and he said because we didn't pay him to tell us too. I had no idea that when you use Jason and his company you even have to pay him to talk.

The whole situation was a half-done job with terrible customer service.
Never use Becks Billiards - you won't be able to play pool on your table!!!

Sometimes it is better to just walk away from a customer like this.

#2REBUTTAL Owner of company

Sun, December 14, 2008

My name is Jason Beck, owner of Beck's Billiards, and I have been serving the valley for more than 16 years with over 10,000 happy customers. I take pride in my work and I am one of the best pool table mechanics in the country. I have a lot of experience with people good and bad.

To start, we were hired to put new felt and rubber on this table. We were never hired to level or put the table together because they already moved it. In addition, the slate on this table was broken. It is a one piece slate table and once slate breaks it is like glass, never to be the same again and very dangerous. I informed them that it is not a good idea to use broken slate, especially with children in the house, because it is very dangerous and that they should replace it with a new piece. This advice was ignored.

We spent over 30 minutes with them choosing a felt color. Jaime hated the color because it was not white. She did not understand why they do not make white felt and proceeded to express her dislike for the color selection ( 40 colors ). They finally chose camel, which she hated.

Almost everything she states in her complaint is false. To sum it up, she wanted me to move a broken piece of slate for her for free in order to find me liable if it broke. I was not going to do this and she cannot accept the fact that they broke their own slate moving it and could not get someone else to pay for it.

Finally, her table is totally playable. The only thing that is not perfect on the table is that the slate is 1/4 of an inch off center in the middle pocket on one side. It has nothing to do with the playability. This compaint has nothing to do with the quality of my workmanship but the fact that she did not get her free piece of slate and her white felt. All companies should beware of this customer, no amount of money is worth dealing with her.

If anyone has any questions about this complaint I would be happy to explain in further detail. Jason Beck, 602 326 9119.
