i answered and ad that i posted on a website call roommate.com. a lady by the name of becky miller said she is from the united kingdom and she was looking for a room just to go to school. i told her how much the room was and she agreed. she also said her father will be sending the check to me in advance. she wanted me to send her the diffence so she can get a flight out asap. i found out that the check was no good and that i deposited in my bank. i out of at least $4000 including bank fees

Besides being an OBVIOUS SCAM, why would you even consider sending ANY of the money back to her? If someone sent me a check, I'd deposit it. After about a month or so, when it was apparent the check was good, I'd still keep all of it, and apply it to the rent. DUH! If the check was no good(as it would be), I'd be out $5. Here's a clue...never accept checks. If you want someone to send you money, have them wire the money to your bank. You can then go to the bank and get it. If the person is legit, they will have no problem doing this.
