On the date of December 04,2004 i did a clothing return without a receipt in the belks clothing store, and the manager had advised that I could not get any cash back. And because I didn't have my receipt, the sales woman continued with my return after she got an approval from the manager and gave me a giftcard with the value of my returned items of $276.00. Later on in the store that morning my cousin Rhonda (she was in the store at the time, also) had an altercation with a manager. They
argued about him following her around the store, (I suppose because she was black),and he accused her of changing prices on some of her items she was purchasing.

So, later on that day we traveled into the city of Auburn,Alabama to another Belks store and I attempted to purchase a pair of jeans with my gift card and the saleswoman told me I had 0.00 balance on my card. The manager on duty said that there was nothing he could do, even though I had My receipt with the balance on there, he told me to go back to the original store so that their computer system could correct the mistake. On that following Wednesday My aunt that was with me on the 4th she went back to the Belk store in Prattville to talk to one of the managers to see about getting my money back onto my card.

The manager on duty,(Elizabeth) and another manager told her they had taken the store credit off the card because they needed either a receipt from me or a date of purchase so that they could look it up in the system, because my cousin and I looked suspicious in the store. I felt as if that was very racial and I'm out of $276 dollars, and something should be done about it. I called there 1 800 complaint line but no one bothered to respond like they said they would, and I feel like that was bad business for the company and if I have to I will continue this all the way to court if no one responds or does something about it.

I have the receipt and the card in my possession and no one had the authority to take what belonged to me off my card, I feel as if they had a problem with giving me the store credit to begin with, they should have never approved it.
