Bellsouth advertises on TV that it provides Fast Access DSL service that is 20 to 50 times faster than a modem. Depending on whether you are used to a 24k or 56k modem I guess. And they say that it is always on; aka, a HOT connection.
NOT!
You have to actually do a dial-up to get access to their "A"DSL service and have to enter a user ID and password just like dial-up. You turn your PC on, you still are not logged on until you click an icon or activate a browser to start the dialup/login/password sequence.

I use DSLReports.com to see how fast my "DSL" connection is and initially, it would report 22-24 times faster download speeds than a 56k modem. Now I am lucky if I get 300k, which is 6 times faster than a dial-up modem. Forget about customer service to try to fix the problem. They will tell you that there are no reported outages even though you can see that you are losing packets if you ping web addresses.
They are being sued in South Florida for false advertising for the lack of services provided. I hope the plaintiff wins.
