I received 13 emails from Bellsouth in 4 days after they reviewed my resume. I passed all of their test, drug screen, background. I was hired, went thru their 7 weeks of their 8 week training. They fired me at the end of my 7th week. Reason: I wasnt a "fit". I was written up for calling an older lady "Darling" after she had called me sweetheart.

Everyone that I worked with used "darling, honey, sweetheart to the older people. I am in Alabama and it is a very common practice. I was never told what was acceptable, only what was not for me. Training for this class was also so sub standard. The instructor stayed on his pager or out of the classroom... I was in the top of sales and received zero bad reports from my customers.> I realize the only reason I was hired was EOA requirements. I am 59, never been fired, always met my goals.> The supervisor didnt like me the first day we went in for orientation--she kept looking at me like I must be lost! There was one other older hiree and she was fired too.>THEN, after I was fired, I sent out 18 resumes and I still dont have a job... that has been 10 months. I have always gotten every job I have applied for and I quit a perfectly good job for Bellsouth...AND, OH YES.

Bellsouth has 18 OFFICES IN THE SOUTH AND BIRMINGHAM IS RATED #18 IN SALES AND SERVICE. Go figure!> This whole thing was so wrong.

Being an employee with bellsouth as a customer service rep, as well as a union member I can tell you that if you were fired cause you werent "fit" it was because of your complete lack of sales or service ability. That is why the training is so long is to weed out the "unfit" individuals. Your age has NOTHING to do with it. That just means less retirment they would have to pay you, they like old people working for us. And why didnt the union get your job back? they would jump all over that like a lawyer at a 10 car pileup.
