I ordered a small dinette set from JC Penney on 11/26/07. The delivery charge was almost as much as the dinette set, over $100. I waited patiently and had no contact to deliver for almost a month.
I received an email from JC Penney Customer Service on 12/22 confirming my home phone number, which was correct - however someone at the Beltman Group had told them it was an incorrect number. I confirmed the number and was asked to give them a little more time.
I finally had a voice message left by Rita McGowin of the Beltman Group, but when I tried repeatedly to call her back, I got her voice mail - until it was too full to accept any further messages. I left dates when I would be available when I could leave messages - no response.
I then contacted JC Penney once again, voicing my complaint about their choice of delivery. Again, was asked to be patient and give them a little more time. The next day I had a voice mail from someone named Joe. When I returned that call, Joe was not available so they sent me to his voice mail. No return calls from either Ms. McGowin or Joe.
On 12/27, I finally reached Joe, who then put me on hold to transfer to Ms. McGowin -who could not even imagine why I was upset. She explained to me that they work with contractors only, they have no control over the delivery schedules. She stated their drivers work Mon-Fri only 8-5 and you need to give them a 4 hour window and be available for delivery. I explained that I was off on 12/31 but that is considered a holiday by Beltman's contracted drivers so no delivery - and of course no Saturdays.
I finally agreed to leave work 1/2 and be home by 4:30 for delivery and was promised by Ms. McGowin that she would put on the delivery invoice that specific information. I got a call at 1:30 from a driver named Cory that he was at my townhome and if I wasn't there we were going to have to reschedule. I voiced my complaint and was told it wasn't his problem and I was not to 'cop an attitude' with him, he's only the driver. If I had issues I needed to contact Dispatch.
I immediately phoned Ms. McGowin who kept me on hold for almost 15 minutes while they attempted to contact Cory. I am now told they will attempt to get another driver out for my delivery - this company is located less than 10 minutes from my home. After all the hassles and now over one month and missing the holidays with my new furniture, I get nothing but attitude from every one of their employees and I have recieved nothing from JC Penney in response to my email complaint sent to them last week.
Now I not only am paying over $100 delivery fee - have had to try to contact this company over and over with no constructive response - but I have to leave work in order to meet them at their convenience. And they have all acted as if they are doing me a favor and cannot understand why I am so upset.
This is absolutely ridiculous - trust me, never ever deal with anyone from this Beltman Group Delivery or order anything from JC Penney that requires a truck other than UPS, FEDEX, DHL or the good ol US Post Office.

Once I reached upper management at Beltmann, they were more than apologetic, hand delivered my dinette set and refunded my delivery charge.
I was also assured the person I had been in contact with previously was counseled about appropriate customer service.

I simply needed to reach someone else other than Ms. McCowin in order to get delivery within a day!
