In early May, 2004 I saw the ad for a 'free 30 day sample' of Altovis. I called the number on the screen and the operator asked for my banking card number in order to pay for shipping.

I received my sample as promised, but shortly thereafter I received a shipment of the product and a bill for $70. I called the company and spoke with a representative named "Monica".

After explaining what had happened, "Monica" told me that not only did they not want the product returned, but told me I should have refused the product 5 days before it was shipped! I told her I had only requested the sample, but she hung up in my face.

I immediately filed a complaint with my bank, and they issued me a replacement banking card. The bank representative told me that they (Citibank) have received numerous complaints about this same company for the same reasons I described.

I also filed a complaint with the BBB and the FTC. I have notified my friends via email NOT to fall prey to this scam. I have also contacted the Fox Network, but they have not responded. I have since noticed that this and related products (Avlimil, Rogesen, Enzyte) are advertised on Court T.V., NBC, and other networks.

Short and sweet. I ordered my 30-day free sample and decided I wasn't going to continue using it. So, I called to cancel, w/in my 30 days, but somehow my credit card had already been charged the full price for another 2 or so months worth and had already been shipped. I was specifically told, several times, to just call and cancel before my 30 day sample was gone.

#5Consumer Comment

I ordered the free sample of one of Berkely's products for the shipping charges. The site was very clear in making it known that you are thereby enrolling in getting product timed to arrive before you run out and being billed to your credit card. I ordered the free sample and then immediately followed the directions to cancel the continuous delivery.

I got the free pills (which by the way worked miraculously in a "blind test") and never received any more. However, I now will sign up for their reduced rates for ordering them sent for a year. It is a shame that because a consumer either did not read or could not understand what was printed they would blacken the eye of a company.
