My story is identical to everyone else's except I was assessed a fee of $6800! I almost passed out right there in the guys office. I told my "consultant" that I would get back to him after I thought it over.

I came home and started searching and found this site and almost fell off my chair, again. I can't believe I almost fell for it! I quickly wrote a letter to the "consultant" and mailed it this evening.

Here is the letter:

Dear "Consultant",

It was a pleasure to meet with you and learn about Bernard Haldane's philosophy and the methods you use to achieve clients' goals. However, after careful consideration I have decided to continue my career search on my own. I believe that the ideas that were presented to me are probably very effective, but the fact remains that the burden of cost is far too exorbitant for me to bear at this time.

I promised myself that I would not accept this counseling if there were up-front charges and I must remain true to that decision. I am not blaming you for this, as I know you are there to sell Bernard Haldane's philosophy. But, in my opinion, if a company is confident in its ability to find careers for clients, it should not have to charge up-front fees. The Bernard Haldane philosophy is sound, but it is my opinion that the services you provide are only worth the expense if fees are applied after successful placement.

Once again, I thank you for taking the time to speak with me, you are a very personable gentleman and I hope you understand that this is strictly a financial decision on my part.

Regretfully,

END OF LETTER

I was polite, mainly because the guy was very nice to me and I didn't feel the need to accuse anyone of anything. But, I am thankful that the brainwashing had a minimal affect on my ability to think and be objective. Not to mention, I got some free advice on how to go about my job search. No harm, no foul.
