Bernard Haldane Associates rip-off pitch seems a little shady Madison Wisconsin
I recently had a back injury that has forced me to look for a desk job (I had been working as a contractor for the last two years-and making good money at it). I posted my resume and cover letter on the typical websites like Monster and the like. Pretty soon I got an email from Bernard Haldane Associates indicating they would like to meet with me to discuss my situation and possibly help find me a job.
I met with the Vice President after filling out a short info sheet about myself. I gave him a copy of my resume and we discussed the difficulty the unemployed face when attempting to find a new job. I was told that BHA could find me my dream job in one to three months and was given some more paperwork to fill out and told to come back the next day.
I met with the same VP the next day and was told to watch a video while he reviewed my paperwork. The video was from some segment called "Building America" and was produced to look like it was a Dateline NBC or 20/20 type of show. It had to have been produced prior to 9-11 because the opening was a panoramic flyover of NYC and there stood the Twin Towers.
After watching the video and writing down a few questions, the VP came back with a detailed proposal stating how BHA could find me a job of my liking. I was told again and again that they would coach me on resume writting, interview techniques, salary negotiating, etc. and that they GAURANTEED I would find a job I could make more money and love to do.
At this point I am thinking to myself, "what's the catch?". And then it came...the $5,000 up front fee. This set off an alarm since I had never heard of a staffing agency charge up front. I was reassured that they charged up front because they are no ordinary staffing agency or headhunter, and from what I have read on this website their statement is true.
I have since decided not to go through with their services and am still unemployed with a bad back...but hey, at least I am not out five grand.
I really don't want to say BHA ripped me off because I am not out any money, just my two hours of time spent meeting with the VP. However, the 350 plus testimonials on this website compelled me not to spend my money with them so I feel I must submit something here to tell my story.
