I called Best Auto Specialists (sic) and asked them if they could install a timing belt on my 1998 Isuzu Trooper. They assured me that they had a "great deal of experience" with this model and that the installation could be affected in only a few hours for approximately $450. The vehicle was taken to their repair facility.

The next day I called and was told that my "spark plugs were fouled and would have to be replaced". I informed the manager that the spark plugs were brand new and shouldn't be fouled but he insisted that they had to be replaced and refused to replace them with the Bosch Platinum Plus plugs that I use. I told him to just get the vehicle running and call me.

The next day I called again and was told that my vehicle would not start and had "serious computer problems" and would have to go to the Isuzu dealer. After a heated argument (the vehicle has NEVER had computer problems), I went to their facility, paid over $450.00 and they towed the vehicle to the Isuzu dealer.

The Isuzu dealer called me and told me that the timing belt had been incorrectly installed and that they had fixed it ($505). I picked up the vehicle (it ran great).

I called Best Auto and told them I wanted my $450 returned and they refused. He told me that "if the timing belt were incorrectly installed I should have brought it back to their facility for repair". THEY TOWED IT TO ISUZU BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T FIX IT!

In the end, they offered to refund a small portion of the $450 which I refused to accept. After this fiasco, I found out from others in the area that Best Auto is famous for repair ripoffs. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO BEST AUTO SPECIALISTS.

The only reason that I do not take them to court is that it would cost me more in lost time at work than I could recover from them.

Judy Judy found that the manager Mr. Wittaker basically ripped of a customer by the name of Mrs. Metz. Supposidly they replaced a torque converter because her car was not shifting correctly and she had to make it back to California. On her way back to California, after paying over $800.00 to have the torque converter replaced it started acting up again, same condition. Mrs. Metz returned to the shop and they said it was something else (speed controller). Long story short, Mr. Wittaker detained her, and assaulted her because she was trying to leave with her son and the vehicle, because Mr. Whittaker would not give her a invoice and she said she was going to dispute this with her credit card company. Police report was made and he basically incriminated himself by admitting that he instructed a tow truck driver to block her car.

Just thought this would be interesting info. Thought to do a search on yahoo for giggles and found these past comments.
