USELESS SERVICE, DID NOT DO WHAT THEY PROMISED.

Bought new computer, opted for "optimization service" for $24.00. Salescreep claimed the service removed ads from the computer (they get paid to put the ads on, then paid again to remove them). Also claimed they would remove pop-ups, install XP service packs, add latest virus updates, get windows updates. All in 15 minutes.

XP service pack already comes installed.

I asked if they can give me a list of what they do. Sales creep said technician would give me that. Technician said he could not give me a list, but I could watch.

After 45 minutes, they were finished. They installed only 5 windows updates, did some registry tweaks, maybe turned off windows messenger. I know cause I watched them. Watched them let our couputer sit idle that is. I asked the guy why he did not get all the updatates. He only did the ones that prevent 'the worm', and that all updates would take an hour.

It took us 1 hour and 20 minutes to get from "we'll buy this", through the service plan pitches, thru this waste of time optimization" and out the door. We hated the experience.

$2000! for crappty service. Do not got there. It is a hussle.

The fact that this 'optimization' service has no documentation describing it should be a major red flag to any customer. If I was scamming people I wouldn't want anything in writing either. It's only purpose appears to be 'optimizing' the stores profit numbers. I feel sorry for the many computer illiterate customers who fell prey to this suckers deal.

if you are going to blame anyone, blame your system manufacturer which through multi million dollar deals has made partnerships with such companies as Norton

First of all, we do not put on Ads to remove them, if you are going to blame anyone, blame your system manufacturer which through multi million dollar deals has made partnerships with such companies as Norton and advertising discount specialist stores and has taken your copy of Windows XP and turned it into a freakshow. I really feel bad for example when I sell an HP computer and someone doesn't do a system customization, only if they are not very computer literate, because they will go home and find all this junk, like eMusic, Norton 6 week trial, Musicmatch Trial, etc etc. The main thing with a system customization is that we patch for the worm virus, remove unwanted startup items, a couple registry tweaks, and clean up your desktop. So true, if the person said they do a million other things, than yea, that person was a "sales creep." However, if you are a pro and know how to do all these things, no one forced you to do this cusomtization. $25 on a full computer setup that will remove the hassle you have to go through when first powering up, isn't so bad. Consider also that technicians charge well over $50 an hour, so if you are getting 40 minutes for the price of $25, its not such a bad deal. Furthermore, not all computer salespeople are creeps. I work in the Holmdel Best Buy store 400, yes, half the country away, but we also do have a couple creeps in my department. But you know why if our supervisor had to choose the best salesperson, he'd choose me? Not because I push accessories, and service plans (sometimes I'm happy when people don't get the service because I know their computer will break and the manufacturer will smile and walk away), but because I take things back to basics, I won't force things on you, but I will ask you what you need, and get it for you. If you are rich enough to replace this computer 5 times in the next 3 years, then why do you find a service plan too expensive? Sometimes I just don't get customers, but I sure do hope some other employees read this and realize that yes, even "sales creeps" sometimes get tied up in the excitement of selling, and its about time we took it back a notch and thought more about the customer. Sorry for going off on a tangent, but you have to realize that no matter how much you tell us, we are not your personal shoppers, and may still not know what you want exactly, so if you seem computer literate and we still offer a system customization, please realize that other customers will not know how to remove those icons, patch themselves versus the worm virus, etc.

If you are not satisfied with your computer, you should at least give us a chance to make it right. If you feel that you were charged for services not rendered, please return to the store and ask to speak with a manager about your concerns. Your satisfaction matters to us.
