Best Buy Mankato Taking money from a 11 year old. Mankato, Minnesota
I specifically asked both the sales floor prople and the Geeks if the laptop I was about to by would support the Sims for which my daughter would almost exclusively use the machine. Everyone nodded and assured me that this was the Sims' best platform.
Caveat Emptor! Buyer beware. It is to bad that we need to bring our own consultants to the showroom with us. The advice I would offer is to get that expert, there are plenty around and most of them young entreprenuers. Pick a system based on the consultant's ideas and specifications. It is cheaper in the long run when you consider that you have just depended on an incompetent floor clerk or arrogant Geek Squader and they have convinced you to purchase a system that does not work as advertised.
Credit the entreprenuer and entreprenuers credit yourselves. Get good advice from someone busy using and learning about systems and let's get the information we need and the equipment we need. Use your money wisely, a small fee for the specs and chances are you can even get some advice on the cheapest sites or stores rather than another big box filled with both ignorant and egocentric "sales persons".
The reward is the upstart of an entreprenuer and less risk that your eleven year old will experience the specticle of a overrated concept augmented by a white shirt, pocket protector and outdated white tie speaking down to a respected member of the community and the valueless system now in her possesion. Good lesson on who to trust with your allowance and a better teaching moment on the base greed of capitalism meets ignorance or just plain corporate carelessness.
So much for Minneota nice or for that matter the contrast between an upstart like Best Buy versus a true Minnesota Institution like Target Corporation.

Umm...Did you seriously make your 11 year old girl buy her own computer?
On a more serious note, how about you as the customer doing some research on your own.

You seem to have a hidden adjenda here.
You are a former mayor. Perhaps upset about a major retailer coming into your community and causing other businesses to close? It's fine if you disagree with them, but you need to at least be honest and upfront about your report. Not make a generic fake report.
Because of several items such as lack of detail as well as comments you made it is very doubtful that there was ever even an 11 year old.

The Sims requires a decent graphics card in order to play....

So the cheaper laptops won't work with it. However, I agree that some research is needed, since a spinoff product, Sims Life Stories, has a sticker on it from EA saying that it is laptop friendly, so obviously EA gets a decent number of complaints about The Sims and laptops....

An agenda, perhaps?

I have to ask: what kind of specialty operating system is required to run a simple PC game such as the SIMS?
Unless I'm missing something, very simple research could answer what sounds like a very basic question. What's the problem with Best Buy here? Did they defraud you into buying a computer with an operating system that wouldn't play "The Sims?"
Perhaps some clarification is in order here, because it reads like simple user interface error.
This particular report seems to be just a rant on the state of conglomerates edging out small upstarts and mom & pop shops.
