On September 26, 2002 I went to 'Best Buy Pay Here' with my 20 month old son, to look for a car. This was my first time buying a car. I don't really know that much about cars. Most of these cars on the lot have aleast 100,000 miles or more and were under atleast 1998 and under. This sales rep. 'Dan' helps me look and tells me about the 1995 honda accord Lx, 4 cylinder with 101,000 miles on it, the car was a local trade, and the selling price was $12,999.

So we test drove the car. And I told him I wasn't sure if I wanted a car that day. He tells me we can go inside and calculate how much everything would be if I was to get the car. At this time I was thinking I really need a car for work and school because the one my parents lend to me is not working so well. The interest rate was going to be 6.5%, they will only give you 2 1/2 years to pay off this car, with a 2000 down payment.

I was still telling Dan that I wasn't sure if I wanted a car that day, and he's trying hard to sell this car to me saying "This car was a local trade, we know everything that has been fixed on it because there is a small notebook with logs of everything that has been done to it, we've checked the car there's nothing wrong with it, if you really want this car you can put a deposit of $300 dollars (which can't be refunded) if you decide you want the car because it might not be here tommorrow." Being as gullible as I am I take into it.

I tell him I want to put $1200 down. He tells me he'll go talk to his manager and try to get him to lower the down payment because its the end of the month and he can usually slip in these kinds of things. So I here them talking in the next desk and the manager does not sound to happy about it, but he agreed. Instead of $1200 I had to put down $1500 and i agreed. and that rather than 2 weekly payments I want to do monthly payments of 380. He also tells me thats fine.

His manager then brings all these papers I have to sign and doesn't give me time to read them and his attitude towards me was not very pleasant or nice. He rushed me through the papers.

Now after signing all the papers. Dan tells me lets drive your new/used car to the bank and get your down payment, which I thought was really odd. So we did. As I'm driving from and to the bank, I decided after all I don't really want that car. While in the car I simply Explain to Dan "I'm a single-mother that doesn't make to much money, and I don't think I can commist to paying that right now." (In my mind I'm pretty sure I can back out of this especially when it has only been about 10 minutes.)Not even looking at me while I'm talking to him or feeling any sympathy, Dan tells me he can't do that because he's pretty sure the manager has already contracted me in.

We pull into the car lot, the manager is outside smoking with his face looking down. Dan gets out of the car and asks the manager "We already contracted her in right?" The manager goes " Yea." I'm thinking WHAT, that can't be right. Its only been 10 minutes since I signed those papers. They tell me well we can't do anything about it or they can sue me.

So when I go home I look up on the internet on the Kelly Blue Book site. The car is really worth $9,000. The next day I go back and talk to Dan and I bring print outs of this site and I tell him I could have gotten a better price on this car and I have print outs of what its really worth. He tells me the reason its worth so much is because there was a notebook containining handwritten notesbook about what has been fixed on the car and he couldn't change the price if he wanted too. I tell him again I don't want the car and again very rude they can't do anything about it because I have already signed the stupid papers.

Oh and also about getting my license plate and tags on the car they tell I absolutely have to get it there and not at the revenue office. So it comes time to get my tags and license plate and I relize that my due date is on a saturday. So I'm late in getting all this stuff done. I go back that monday and this lady tells me that the papers I have to sign to avoid a 100 fee for being late I would have to drive to Rogers to do it. Well I drive all the way to rogers to do this. And this guy tells me I can do it at the revenue office. Now I'm confused, frustrated and angry, I go all the way back to springdale to do it. Finally I got this all finished when I realized when the lady at best buy was calculating how much it I would have to pay her to get my license plates and tags she was charging me about 50-60 dollars more then the revunue office.

Now I'm thinking I was on monthly payments I made my first payment the 3 weeks I had this car. So 2 weeks past buy and this lady has been calling me all day reminding me I have a late payment and that it was in my contract. I tell her to leave a note in the computer stating I will pay double when I get my next paycheck. I'm not sure if she did or not but the calls kept on coming all day everyday for 2 weeks after. And everyday I tell her I know and I will pay when I get my paycheck.

When I finally got my paycheck and I'm at their office ready to pay. The lady that I'm making the payment to, she sees the note in the computer stating that I was going to make a payment 2 weeks after on a friday. I asked her "why are you guys harrasing me with these calls when I let you know I was going to make a payment and if I keep on getting harrasing calls like this you guys can go ahead and keep this car." She tells me in a very rude attitude that its they're job and they can sue if I do that.

Now I've only had this car for a month. They repossess the car and trying to sue me if I don't pay the remaining $7,400. The car now is worth somewhere around $6,500. Which they supposedly stated they sold the car in an auction for 4,600. I wasted $1880.

I think this is ridiculous because I've only had this car for a month and I tried to back out of it 2 times and they wouldn't let me. and altogether they got almost $7000 for this car. I think they are to greedy and thoughtless about the customer. All they want is the money that I possibly can't pay because I don't have that kind of money being that I'm a single-mother, full-time college student and and I work part-time and I've got bills to pay!!!!!!!!!!!!
