Complaint Review: Best Choice Camera

Best Choice Camera Not the "Best Choice" internet

I received an email message offering what looked like exceptional prices on Digital SLR cameras.  I wanted to purchase a camera for one of my daughters for Christmas so I went to the website and reviewed the offerings.  I found what appeared to be a great package deal including the camera, lens, and 15 additional accessories.  I ordered the package after reading some of the customer reviews.  

Later that same day I received an email asking me to contact customer service to "confirm my order".  I called and spoke with "William" who asked me if I had ordered the specific camera by model number.  I responded yes.  He then asked me if I wanted the battery that I had assumed would come with the camera.  I was told that the battery did not come with the camera and that it would cost and additional $149.00  I said I did not want the battery believing I could find it cheaper on line somewhere else.  Still the package deal was better than other online offers for the camera.  Then he asked if I wanted the US or Import version of the camera.  I responded that I wanted the US version.  He then said that the US version was "more expensive" than the import version.

I asked what the difference was and was told that the import version was in Chinese.  I asked if that meant that the documentation/owner’s manual was in Chinese.  He responded that the camera worked in Chinese and if I wanted the US version I had to pay more.  I responded that I wanted to cancel my order.  He immediately said “canceled” and hung up.

I called back and asked for a cancellation number and was told that they were “too busy” and had more customers to service.  I was told that I would not be receiving a cancellation confirmation and that since I called back I would not be getting a refund.  I responded by telling William that I would cancel the payment through my bank.  He hung up!

I checked with my bank and the charge had not been posted to my account.  I will continue to monitor the account to ensure the charge is not posted. 

One last follow up.  I checked my online account at Best Choice Camera and found the order status was canceled. I would say these at not the Best Choice for cameras.
