My husband and I began with Better Budget in December 2003 with 4 credit cards in the program in attempts to pay off our debt. We regularly paid our payments each month. The next thing we know, we're being sued by Citibank. The bad thing was, we had enough money in our account with them to pay off the account, yet they had done no negotiating. I contacted Citibank and did it myself to stay out of court. A few months go by and then we're sued by MBNA. Because we had used the money in the account to pay off Citibank, there wasn't enough to pay off MBNA. We ended up with a settlement against us, making monthly payments to an attorney and a bad mark on our credit.

In January 2005, I learned that the Federal Trade Commission had filed suit against Better Budget due to their defrauding of consumers. I still had two credit cards with that company. I was instructed to contact those creditors myself to netotiate settlements. I am out at least $1,000 that's gone into BBFS pocket. We have now had to do a home equity loan in order to pay off the remaining two cards and pay off the settlement with MBNA. Thankfully, the interest rate is fairly low.

I am glad to see that BBFS is getting what they deserve. I can only hope and pray that, through litigation, we can get our money back that they "stole" from us.
