Better Business Bureau CT BBB in CT ignores consumer consumer complaints Wallingford Connecticut

The Connecticut chapter of the BBB is totally useless. They have reduced themselves to a bureaucracy that will completely ignore the merits of a consumer complaint entirely.

They will file a dispute as "Resolved" when it is a legitimate dispute from the consumer that has most certainly NEVER been resolved!

For instance, I filed a complaint against a roofer who did shoddy work and caused several leaks after install. No proper management for the project was given, and they cannot even tell the homeowner what protective layers they put on! Dumb! Additionally, when I notified Landmark Roofers in Connecticut of the leaks in March 2007, they 'dragged their feet' and stalled until July 2007 to finally come to my home with a sour attitude to attempt to fix the leak.

The continues to this day, and they refuse to honor their warranty.

I finally filed a complaint with the BBB.

They not only did NOTHING but actually took the side of the bad roofer and sent a bogus letter stating that their supposed "investigation" shows that the company was fine in their behavior.

Outrageous.

This BUREAUCRACY is nothing more than a fronting-organization to make the community feel good that there is a supposed independent organization to be a watch dog.... but the reality is that the BBB is simply in existence for itself.

The BBB has no purpose. It frequently ignores or downgrades any complaint about a business, and actually turns AGAINST the homeowner.

They need to be publicly exposed for their own unethical and illegitimate business practices and PUT OUT OF BUSINESS.

They are, in reality, a bad business' best friend.

Beware and stay away from the BBB. Do not waste your energy or time on writing to them.

Focus on filing a report with your state Department of Consumer Protection as well as the Rip Off Report. Take action legally if you need to, but center your efforts on organizations that can actually help the consumer.

Goodbye to the BBB. "Bad Business Bureau" is what they really are.

i worked at the BBB for a number of years and when i left i was told that if i were to say anything about how the BBB does things the ceo would personally make things "difficult" for me. IMAGINE that!!! Fortunately as you can tell by the savvy consumers who commented here the BBB is not fooling anybody with half a brain. I say let the business who "need" the BBB keep dishing out money for their "services" and as the BBB says "let the buyer beware" thats right BEWARE of business who are members. And as the country faces recession and a depression business's wont have it in their budget to pay "dues" so BBB will be bye-bye-bye

BBB good only for business who "pay" membership

Only businesses who "need" the BBB benefit from PAYING thier dues. I was once told me that membership leads are sometimes developed right out of COMPLAINT database. Once the BBB is contacted about a complaint of any kind all a business has to do is RESPOND to the complaint (and have money to pay dues) not necessarily RESOLVE to the complaint to the customers satisfaction to be offered membership.
People need to ask the BBB for a copy of the "standards" accredited businesses must meet and maintain for membership as this is what the BBB says "The standards are a comprehensive set of best practices for how businesses should treat the public in a fair and honest manner." Oh well thats really clear, fair to WHOM? here is something else the BBB states "As private non-profit organizations, however, they cannot force a solution on parties" what DO they Do? I think any reputible business big or small who conducts themselves ethically stands on its own reputation and doesn't need to BUY membership and should put their would be dues to better use.
I personally AVOID any business that feels the NEED to be afiliated with the BBB.

If yes - they are paying dues to the BBB.

BBB's never acurately report complaints against dues paying members. Getting that dues money from the business is too important to them. So they will always side on behalf of the business not the consumer.

I filed a complaint against Medical Products On Line (Mitchell Jay Reiff) with CT BBB, Hartford to be exact, and they are as useless as a tit on a boar. They closed my case that I filed against Medical Products On Line, saying that they (MPLO)addressed my dispute, and was closing the case; because on their site it says that PDF files are not refundable. DUH! It was never about the refund, which is why I told Reiff what he could do with it. It has been, and will always be about the fact that MPOL has unethical advertising practices, and are misrepresenting their products and sending the consumer something totally different from what they THINK they are receiving. For some reason these idiots are completely missing that important FACT. As a matter of fact, they are either so insipid, or they just could care less, but they STILL have the SAME misleading pic on their site. How's that for wanting to do business ethically?

I wrote them back and asked them if we were looking at the same case, because something is wrong if they are closing the case, and he STILL has the same misleading pic on his website. I sent these fools a copy of the pic that he has on his site, and a pic of the actual product I received. I then inferred that Reiff must have paid them off for them to close a case that is so blatantly justified.

Carolyn Betts, one of the Hartford CT BBB Dispute Resolution "Specialists", which equals out to underpaid, overworked, unskilled drone, writes me back stating she "resented the fact that I accused the almighty BBB of unethical practices, blah, blah, blah"), but she also supplied me with the CT Dept. of Consumer Protection, and the Attorney General, the only productive thing she did concerning my case. I will most definitely be contacting the both of them concerning this case. The pics tell the entire story, and it is beyond me how they stood behind this p***k they way that they have.

BBB is a ripoff

The BBB charges different rates based on the size of your company. More employees the higher the dues. For a small company you can let the BBB shake you down for $600 per year. This basically gives you protection from any negative complaints being filed against you. If you do not join then the BBB lets all negative complaints become posted. I am always suspect of companies that are members of the BBB or advertise their BBB membership. Most legit honest hardworking business owners let there work speak for themselves or will immediately remedy any bad situations...thereby eliminating the need for the BBB. The BBB is one of the biggest consumer scams ever...offering a false sense of security for customers of shady businesses.
