This BBB started listing our furniture restoration business, Dardonville Furniture Restoration, as "out of business" in February 2010, after a letter was returned to them saying that we were no longer at the address (we had moved). They say that they were updating their files, and that they tried calling us twice on the phone, but that our phone was disconnected. They also said on their website that we no longer had a business license.

Our phone has never been disconnected. We have had a business license continuously since 2003. The BBB just didn't do their job of checking and probably did not call (although our correct phone number was on their website). We were never contacted by phone by the BBB until after having made them remove the "alert" listing from their website.

I contacted the BBB of Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington, and not getting any apology from them, I contacted the Council of BBB who sided with them. The BBB's mistake turned away (from their own account) from our business some 40 clients in 2010 and 2011, which represents about $10 000. I am only asking to be given a free accreditation for 16 months to make up for this loss. We currently have an A+ rating. The BBB refuses any discussion of this matter.

The BBB, which is supposed to help resolve complaints between consumers and businesses, turns a deaf ear when complaints are directed against it. This incident also demonstrates that it's a badly-run business, unable to keep its files up to date.
