On Friday, 25 January 02, I went to pay for a purchase on ebay through Paypal. When the payment was rejected, I figured I had forgotten to change the expiration date on my atm/mc account. After doing that, the payment was again rejected!

Throughly confused, I went to my on line bank account and was flabber- gasted to find that NSS*MAGAZINES had charged slightly more than the total amount in my savings and checking account combined, not only cleaning out both accounts, but gener- ating both a transfer charge for transferring funds from my savings to my checking account and an overdraft charge.

I never authorized this or any charge for magazines. What I had done was accept a "gift" of two month free trial subscriptions, with the understanding that I would be notified prior to and continuance of the trial period.

Of the three magazines I selected, only one had actually arrived, "Time." Interestingly enough, three day after the discovery of the charge, I received a postcart from "Time", dated the same day the funds were removed from my account, regreting that I had elected not to continue with the subscription.

Obviously, NSS* Magazines terminated the subscription and pocketed the money! I am going to do everything I can to hold these bastards accountable and any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I for one (and suspect others are in the same boat) am on a fixed income of retirement and social security and would never have ordered magazines in this amount ... actually, since I live on a sailboat I have no room for many.

In large part it's my own stupidity ... I know there is no free lunch ... I just like "Time" and thought why not try it free! Now I know! Oh, yes, the 800 # for NSS*, included in the charge notation from my bank, was no longer in service
