My fiance and I brought in our 2000 VW Jetta for (4) new tires, alignment, and oil change. When we returned to pick up our vehicle we noticed our driver side power window was rolled down and would not go back up. We immediately told the owner Bill about what happened and he had no explanation. We then spoke with the employee who performed the work on the vehicle and he said it's normal procedure to roll the window down when working on a vehicle. He said he rolled it down and didn't use it again. Neither Bill or the other employee new anything about why our window mysteriously quit working while in there possesion.

The window has worked fine for 4 years and now after 3 hours in there shop it doesn't work anymore, and it's our fault? Also, they offered up no compromise for repairs, for example maybe splitting the bill or anything. The owner kept putting his hands in the air and saying "it's not our fault, I don't know what to tell you."

I don't understand why they wouldn't accept responsibility for damage that occured to our vehicle while in there possesion. All we want is our vehicle returned to us the same way we brought it in, with the services we paid for. Doesn't business have insurance for situations like this? After about 10 minutes of arguing and almost having to kick some old guys a** we decided to just leave and take it to a real shop and have it fixed.

We drove our vehicle to a shop across town and was quoted $120 for the repair of the window. It turns out the broken window was covered by a VW factory recall so the repair cost was $0. After all of that what a relief.

However, the lousy business practices and irresponsible workers of Big O Tires is what prompted me to file this report. If there were no factory recall we would have been out of at least $120 if not more. If I'm wrong for posting this report then somone let me know. I felt we were being mistreated and that our complaint wasn't being takin' seriously.

The fact that the owner didn't want to have anything to do with correcting the situation is what makes me upset. Why any business owner would want there customer to leave angry and feeling like they've been taken for is beyond me. The tires, oil change, and alignment were all done in prompt fashion. We don't have any complaints about what we paid for. Bottom line, we wanted our car returned to us the same way we brought it in. Is that too much to ask?

Nothing wrong with Big O Tires

#4Author of original report

Wed, August 11, 2004

As a follow up to my original report I would like to offer my apologies to Bill and to Big O for posting my complaint as a "rip off". I don't feel rip-off report was the right forum to discuss this matter. This complaint was posted after I found out that it wasn't the actions of Big O tires that caused the window to stop working. However, I still feel that this situation could've been handled differently, and that was the reason for the original complaint.

WE KNOW NOW Big O tires had nothing to do with the faulty power window. But at the time we did not know the power window was a factory defect. Rather than Big O trying to help out, or at least try to work with us, or maybe give us suggestions they didn't. In other words, here's your car back with a broken window, deal with it!

I'm still unclear as to why before we knew it was a defect Big O tires didn't feel that there was a small chance the damage could've of been their fault. As a result, we were not ripped off and my decision to post this report was wrong. My complaint here was hasty as were some of my comments, again my apologies to Bill and Big O.

Also, I would like to state again the work that was performed (tires, alignment, oil change) was delivered on time. No complaints to Big O on their service or work performed. I would still reccomend Big O tires to anyone.

Customer Complaints ..The facts of the complaint speak for themselves

#4REBUTTAL Owner of company

Tue, August 10, 2004

I am the co/owner of the Big O Tire store listed in this complaint, and the old guy whose a** they felt should be kicked. As was stated in this complaint, the work on the customers car was done according to the highest industry standards. The work was delivered on time and at the price quoted to the customer.

The facts of the complaint speak for themselves. My thanks to Cory for pointing out the error of this complaint. We have been in business going on five years, and in that time have never had a legitimate customer complaint that was not settled to the customers complete satisfaction. It is unfortunate that there are people out there who feel the only solution to an unfortunate occurance is to get angry and pitch a fit. It is interesting that Ben's response to this was to post this complaint accusing me of ripping him off, even after he has found out that the damage was in fact not our fault.

As a small businessman, customer service is paramount to staying in business. My personal philosophy is to step up to the plate and fix any damage that there is even the smallest chance we might have caused. This policy is not cheap. We cannot however be responsible for mechanical failures to cars that we had nothing to do with. I feel that Ben should step up to the plate and apologize, and admit that he was hasty in his judgement of our business.

Had a 01 Jetta that we bought brand new. Had it back to the VW dealer 7 times with the same problem you are having. It got so bad, that VW extented their lousy 24,000 mi warranty out to like 100,00 or 10 years or something like that on the windows and window motors. We got it back from the dealer one day repaired and the next day they broke again. I think the window mounts were made of cheap plastic. The finally replaced them with metal. I doubt it was the car guy's fault if all he did was roll down the windows. I'm surprised you didn't get any paperwork from VW, we got a whole slew of it. There might have been a class action lawsuit involved. It just goes to prove stuff happens. In your post you state"They wouldn't accept any responsibility for their actions" Resposibility for what actions? They put the window down and it wouldn't go back up. Correcting what situation? You are blaming this guy for something he didn't do. VW made a cheap POS, and it this guy's fault? As you state Big O did the tire, oil and alignment in a prompt fashion, without complaint. Now, here is a negative post about a company that has and had nothing to do with you window. You cried and whined about your $120 until you found out it was a factory defect and now you write am I wrong. Hell yes you are wrong.
