I notice Bill Me Later had contact my credit report wihtout my knowledge

I immediately contact Bill Me Later.

They informed me I had opened an account with them for a $500 credit.

I informed them this was not me and to please immediately shut down the account.

They informed me $25 had been charged to the account. I asked them to shut it down and investigate.

I received notice immediately that the account was investigated and all the information was tied to me identity so they could not close it and I was responsible. However, they were sending me a packet in case I wanted to file a police report.

I called Bill Me Later back and asked them to please not keep the account open while I contacted the police and filed their paperwork and Bill Me Later. They told me the could not close the account until the $25 was paid. After some debate I offered to pay the $25 if it meant they would close it. They then told they did not accept credit cards over the phone. Ridicolous, they would accept a criminals stolen information to open the account, but would not halt the account, nor allow me to pay the account off that was supposedly my own account! At this point I am having to wait until the police complete their own investigation, meanwhile the criminals are allowed to purchase against my name and I am stuck with the bill. Where has American gone so wrong?
