My teenage daughter had color service done at Bliss Salon in Toms River NJ. Girl that did the work ws named Becky. They met several before for a consultation. When they met, my daughter requested a full head of foil highlights. My daughters hair color was a medium brown color & she explained to Becky that she wanted foiled blond highlights throughout her hair.

My daughter came home from her appointment, in tears, as the work done was not what she had wanted. Her entire head is now a yellow-gold color. It appears that Becky pulled way too much hair into the foils, as there is no trace of Nicoles previous color. The foils done around the crown were several inches from the scalp in some places, which looked rather sloppy. Lastly, there were some spots that appear that color was dripped on her head.

I called Becky soon after to see what could be done to correct the color. She was somewhat ambiguous on the phone and suggested that a toner may take out the brassyness of the yellow. I asked if we could come back right away, which we did.

When we went back to the salon, I sensed immediate hostility from Becky, who was a young girl, herself. I did not want to insult her work, so I made every possible effort to come to a resolution that everyone would be happy with. She kept insisting that my daughters hair looked fine to her and repeatedly told me you just dont understand how color works. Another young lady behind the desk, Denine, kept calling over it looks fine to me too.

I showed her the dripped patches, she insisted that these things happen. Again, she said it looks fine to me. At that point, I expressed that my daughter was not happy with the work, and either was I.

She said I can put a toner on it but who knows if Nicole will be happy with that either. She was blatantly rude and lacked any professional etiquette.

While trying to come to a remedy, Becky refused to let me speak, and interrupted me every time I tried to talk to her. She interrupted me so many times that I finally asked her to please let me finish talking. At that point, Becky rolled her eyes at me, then turned around & walked away while I was speaking to her.

I asked, where are you going, Im still speaking to you?. She threw up her arms, and said I dont need this and proceeded to walk over to the reception desk.

I followed her over I asked her what the salons policy was when a client is not pleased and she said she didnt know. At that time, she asked Denine. Denine said we dont have any policy. I reiterated by asking them both you dont have a written policy of any sort?they confirmed with a No. I requested a refund, which they denied so I asked her to return the tip that my daughter had given her, which she did by slapping the money in my daughters hand.

I asked to speak with a manager and was told there were no managers on duty. I asked for a name so that I could call, and the girl behind the desk responded you are so rude, Becky jumped in with isnt she?. I asked again for the name of the manager, and their response was well have them call you. I said, no, I would like a name so I can make the call myself. The one girl responded with a one word answer Roe.

I asked when Roe wouldnt be in until end of the week. When I asked what manager would be in earlier, i got another one word response...Sidney.

I turned to my daughter and said, lets leave, Ill send you somewhere else to have the corrective color done. At that point we headed down the stairs & I heard Denine say b***h. I marched back up the stairs, fuming at this point. I looked at her & asked her what she just called me, she responding nothing. Im embarrassed to say that I used profanity and said *uck youand walked out. As we headed down the stairs again, she screamed out after me that she was calling the police.

I called the salon the next morning asking to speak to Sydney, the alleged manager. Denine answered the phone and asked who was calling, when I stated my name, she said Sydney was on vacation. I asked if there would be a manager in later today & she said, yes someone else would be there around 3pm. I hung up, but called back a few minutes later. I spoke with Denine again & asked her for the name of the owner.

She responded Ziggy. I told her that I wanted to contact her in writing & asked for her last name. She said she wasnt going to give that information out and hung up on me. I had to call the Chamber of Commerce, than my local tax office to get the info!

Im embarrassed that the two of them got me so angry that I lost my cool, but to be treated so badly after my daughter just paid $160.00 on horrible service is unacceptable. I wrote a very nice letter to the owner of Bliss. She called me immediately & Im disgusted to say that she was ruder than the 2 little shits that work for her.

She refused a refund but offered to do corrective work for 1/2 price! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? We were scammed..they saw a young girl with pretty hair & figured they'd screw it up so she'd have to get it redone...

Needless to say, I took her to a real colorist & had it done correctly..came out great but cost me an add'l $170 to have it fixed.

STAY AWAY FROM BLISS, unless of course you want to overpay for a bad hair day.

I'm very curious about why the offer to view the tapes was ignored...

Janet,

Your story loses a lot of credibilty with phrases like "they saw a young girl with pretty hair & figured they'd screw it up so she'd have to get it redone" and "Im disgusted to say that she was ruder than the 2 little shits that work for her". Clearly, then and at the time of the incident, you show a lack of control.

Having worked in several salons, I cannot begin to imagine what can be gained by deliberately ruining someone's hair so you can sell them more services. This makes absolutely no sense from a business standpoint. Reputation is everything to a salon.

More likely what happened was that your daughter either got a service different from you wanted (as Zigrid stated) or she requested something because it sounded good without realizing what it would look like.

The situation as she states did not happen that way at all. She sent her daughter into the salon alone. Becky questioned the girl extensively before the service. She stated to Becky exactly what she wanted and what she wanted was very heavy foils. She did not want dark in her hair. Becky worked extensively on the girl and the girl left happy. I can verify that because we have cameras in the salon and after the incident I reviewed the tapes. I was never rude to this crazy woman. All I ever did was listen to her , read her letter and then stated that I would review the tapes before making a decision. She was "unbelievable!" on the tape. She was very rude to Becky , Becky just stood there and took the abuse from her and when she couldn't get a word in edgewise, did walk away but stated to
the crazy woman, Janet Reed, she would have to speak to a manager. Deneen, Never, never called her anything but did say,"o my God". How could she talk like that in front of her daughter. Janet Reed stopped at the end of our steps and said to Deneen,"what did you say?" You F**kin B**ch, so on and so on. Deneen never never uses language like this woman stated and that also showed on the tape.
Deneen did tell her she would call the police if she did not leave.
We had several client in another room receiving pedicures and when they came out, were astonished the filth that was coming from this woman mouth.
Its all on tape. I saved the tape and offered Janet Reed to see the tape from when her daughter was in alone with Becky and she could see for herself what her daughter told Becky she wanted and also the one where she came in. I did not feel there was ample evidence other than
Janet wanted her daughters hair a certain way and the daughter wanted it her own way. When the daughter got home and Janet Reed didn't like it she wanted to come back and have Becky do it again to her own liking which would have been a different service. She wanted Becky to put low lights into her daughters hair which was NOT what the daughter wanted. becky states that on the tape and offers to do that for half the price, remember this is not what the daughter wanted.
Janet Reed did not want to pay our prices, She was too cheap, but we are a high end salon and if she did not want to pay our prices, she should have gone to the mall. Our staff is trained by us and by Aveda to be respectful and listen to the client. She just wanted money and we know there are people like that out there. People who will state that there is a fly in my soup to get a free meal at a restaurant. Our policy is that we repair any service that is not what the client wanted. In a situation like this, where the client states one thing and then the mother wants something else, that is another service .
We are open always to help our clients. I have been in business for 20 years . I would have helped this Janet reed if it was a legitimate complaint. I offered her to meet her and show her both tapes, I never heard from her again. No one was rude, she got caught in a lie and i had proof.
If anyone has concerns about their service we are always willing to rectify. Please contact us if it is a legitimate complain, we will help.
Thank you for your time.
