Complaint Review: Blockbuster

Blockbuster ripoff, overdue, extended view, not returned, proof, blame, late. Once I drop it in the box, it's out of my hands and I shouldn't be charged for what I cannot control. Round Rock, Texas

*Sing* I was hoping it would not have to come to this. I have sent in those little complaint cards before regarding this same subject, but after 3 years of being mostly satisfied with my local blockbuster, I had to cancel my membership. The last 3 times I rented and returned well before the due date, I have recieved late fee statemants. One was a game that I turned in the day after it was rented, 6 DAYS BEFORE IT WAS DUE!! This was the last straw.

I have considered actually returning the movies inside the store and asking for a statement saying they were returned, but that is rediculous. That is what the drop boxes are for and they need to learn to use them responsibly. I don't know who to blame in this.

Just as I cannot prove that I returned my movies, I have no proof that it is the employees fault. Maybe it's just human error, maybe it's computer error. But 3 times in a row is too much. Everytime I drop it off, I make sure it has completely dropped into the box. I am tired of calling and arguing about it.

Once I drop it in the box, it's out of my hands and I shouldn't be charged for what I cannot control. I suggest to anyone who has had even one false late statement that you cancel your membership immediately.

they hire at barely more than minimum wage

Just because you had this problem doesn't mean Blockbuster has this problem. Do you realize there are over 8,500 locations in the USA alone? Considering they hire at barely more than minimum wage, you seriously don't expect a stellar staff do you? It is perfectly reasonable to expect that out of 8,500 locations there will be a couple that don't run the way they should. The stores are INDEPENDENTLY managed by local people. A Blockbuster location is only as good as the town it's in and the people it can get to work their. People make mistakes.

The common element to your complaint is the drop box. So three times when you used the drop box you got charged? How about you just stop using the drop box? I dunno but that seems like common sense. I assure you it is nothing more than simple human error. I seriously doubt that if you returned a rental 6 full days before it was due back and you were charged for it, that it could be anything but an oversight. I have rented from Blockbuster for years and while I've never used the drop boxes because I have no trouble walking inside, I have NEVER been charged a late fee when the rental was on time.

Just because this happened to you doesn't mean Blockbuster as a whole is in the business of ripping people off. Again, there are 8,500+ locations. If you have 8,500 guys and five of them break the law, does that mean all of those guys are criminals? NO. It means there is something wrong with those SPECIFIC guys, just like your complaint means that maybe there is something wrong with your SPECIFIC Blockbuster location that should be fixed. Bad employee? Bad manager? Whatever it is it has nothing to do with Blockbuster as a company.
