I was contact on 8/12/2008 by a sales person from Blue Yellow Book asking if I wanted to cancel or renew the subscription with them. At this point I had no idea who they were but I said that I wanted to cancel because someone else might have signed up with them by mistake. I was then transferred to the cancellation department and they told me that my conversation was being recorded and I said OK. It then took about 10 min and getting transferred two more times before they gave me a cancellation number.

I got the bill today for $698.00, I then looked over the bill and it had almost no information on it about the agreement and look like it was printed straight off a Word template

I called the 800 number to ask who authorized the charge and what service we got for the money. I was told that it was authorized by the managing partner of my company(Kept calling him Greg but his name is Craig) but there was no written contract and they had no recording of the verbal agreement. I asked the owner and he had no recollection of ever talking to them or authorizing the charge.

When I asked what we got they said that we got listed on their website, I then went to their website and took a look. (blueyellowbook.com) The website is a complete mess and doesn't even work properly. It doesn't have any related heading for our business (junk removal) and 90% of the listings in Seattle are either the same listing spammed over and over again or they have a street address as the name of the company. I don't anyone who would want to pay $700 to be listed on this unprofessional website.

Also the lady I talk to said that she was going to call me back the next day with more information(recording of the verbal agreement, advertisement proof...) but I has been two days and still nothing.

I am going to refuse to pay them and would rather pay a lawyer the same amount to take care of the problem. I have already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the FTC. I would recommend anyone else dealing with the same problem to file a complaint. Also I would be interested in joining a class action law suite

Hello Mr.------, thank you for contacting us. As I had mentioned to you during our conversation, we reviewed you complaint and found out that your name was mistakenly placed in our renewal campaign instead of our new sales campaign which is why the representative with whom you spoke believed that you already had a listing with us. You may disregard the invoice you received from us and you have been placed on our do not call list. If you wish to list with us in the future please feel free to contact us. Sorry for the confusion.

Better Business Bureau Complaint Response

Dear Mr.-------:

Thank you for contacting the Better Business Bureau regarding your complaint with the above mentioned company. The company you complained about is one of dozens of companies using mail drop addresses in Upstate New York to market in the United States. To the best of our knowledge, this firm is located in Canada.

The majority of the complaints we receive on these Canadian firms involve harassing faxes and phone calls requesting payment for an unsolicited product or listing. Although the BBB cannot guarantee that it won't happen, the Better Business Bureau has never heard of a company's credit being damaged for failure to pay for an unsolicited invoice. The collection agencies employed by these companies are usually their own.

The BBB will send a copy of your complaint to the company. Copies of your complaint will also be forwarded on to the proper regulatory agencies.

The BBB feels confident in advising you to ignore their request for payment. However, if you have concerns, you may wish to seek the advice of your attorney before making your decision.

Don't waste your money on an Attorney. This company is a scam one of many that do business like they do. If they do have a recording of you updating your information more than likely they change it around to make it sound like you agreed to their listing. Write a letter to your State Attorney General, FTC and the Better Busines Bureau in your state and the state the scam company is located in. If they are located in Canada file a complaint with the Canadian phone busters. Then ignore the invoices they send, unless and invoice comes in the mail then file a complaint with the post office for fraud.

This company can not ruin your credit or do anything to make you pay this invoice. All they will do is harass you on the phone. And I do mean harass. It took me 2 years to get rid of a company just like this. They threatened all kinds of things. I wrote letters of complaint to every one. I would argue with them everytime they called, until I got bored with this, then when they called and I found out it was them I hung up not saying a word. I think the phone calls stopped when I called the Canadian phone buster. Find out as much as you can about this company and start writing. An Attorney will just cost you money and won't help you. Ignore the invoice and don't ever pay or they won't ever, ever go away, if you think paying the invoice will make them go away you are wrong.

Good luck.
