Do not trust BlueHost for critical webhosting for your business. When I began using Bluehost, probably 2008, they seemed to be a reasonable service. I continued to build my business, hosting Wordpress sites on their shared server. I upgraded to Pro when my sites reached critical mass.

Without warning, they shut down all my sites and emails last Friday, saying there was malware in my account. I don't do ecommerce and my sites are benign business blogs and corporate types. As of writing, I am still not back online.

Unfortuately they appear to be blaming me for the malware because I didn't have a service they sell call SiteLock. I didn't have it because I didn't know about it, nor that it would be necessary. I never had problems before. Then I found this: Syrian Electronic Army hacks Bluehost, Justhost, Hostgator, Fastdomain and Hostmonster.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I wonder if this breach - which was their problem - became my individual problem?

Further, although the technicians have been "nice" to talk to on the phone, all the "sorry" in the world can repair the damage to my business and my reputation. So, think very hard before setting up shop on Bluehost. They are not a transparent company and I'm sure I can not trust them again. I'm hoping there is a lawsuit in this fiasco. The time, money and effect on my personal well-being has been critically impacted.

It will take some time, effort and money to move to another hosting agent, but it will be worth it. Do not trust BlueHost for critical webhosting tasks for your business.
