I recently purchased 2010 BMW 5 series. Four days later the car was sprinkled with water from lawn sprinkler system. The water spots would not come off - had to have them buffed out of the paint.

When I complained to the BMW representative, she told me that we would need to use "purified water" to wash the car and that any water would stain the paint if I didn't wipe it off immediately or get the BMW dealer offered sealant for $400, which is only guaranteed for a few years.

Why weren't we told about this at pickup? Representative also stated that since the water in our area was "hard water" that this would happen. Ok, I live in the desert - there is only hard water here. I can't believe you buy a $60,000 car and the paint is ruined when water gets on it. What are we supposed to do when it rains?

We did get the sealant, but it seems to me that BMW need to deal with this issue. If they are selling their product in a hard water area, such as Arizona, they need to alert the consumer or provide the sealant to them.
