BoatUS has an automatic membership renewal program that the customer can elect to activate that saves the company from sending out three or more renewal notices and reduces effort for the member to accomplish annual membership renewals. However, the member is charged the renewal amount two months before the membership expiration date! What a sweet way to get operating funds, sort of a free two months loan. This service is provided to tens of thousands of members according to their service department. They say that members are told in advance, but I did not know. I thought that credit card companies did not allow service providers to make charges in advance of performance, at least not two months in advance!

It is time for customers to be treated more fairly. Especially in a case like this where we are saving the company money by not have to make renewal mailings. It does not seem to be a customer friendly way of paying back the good customer for helping them save the company money by then stealing our interest on the monies charges for two months!
