I was a student at boca beauty academy in 2009-2010. Chris Barry talked me into enrolling into esthetics with a bunch of add ons. By the way he is very good at talking up a good game. I was soppoting myself at the time with a full time job. And stressed to him that I need my job, so I enrolled at night. A student loan was taking out for me to attend I paid my dues. And that was that.
My first day of class is the day I realized how unorganized this school truly was. No body informed me of orientation, I never got my kits, and there was never room to sit in the class. Asking questions never got me anywhere. Mr Barry acted like "I got your money now you figure it out". I never knew who to talk to. Months went by and it was the same , time clock was always broken, we never knew what hours we had we had to calculate up them ourselves.
I completed theory and passed , and soon we'd be entering the clinical part. That is when my doctor told me I had a medical condition that I will have repeated test and biopsys. My instructor was very informed of my condition and I was missing school, depressed, and just had too much on my plate I could not concentrate. I spoke to her and she told me maybe I should take a break. So I wrote a letter to excuse me from school due to my medical condition. A month later I got a suspension letter. No call, no letter before that, no voicemail. So I called back and left several messages and spoke to the head woman(I never knew her name) and she was a bit rude, did not have any sympathy for my condition and told me Accoring to the handbook I had to type up a letter for a leave of absence.i said "well maam, I did not get a handbook and everyone knew what was going on, funny. You never called me or my instructor never told you." She said I cannot return to school that if I come back I will need to start over. I was very upset.
Then several months later I figured since I'm paying for school , I should go back and finish because I really wanted to be an estheticIan. Again I spoke to Chris Barry and he told me I would have to pay it all over again because im paying for my spot. I did not feel that was right , but hey , I was young naive, and Despret for a career. So this time mr Barry had me take out a loan and I would have to pay that on top of my other loan. Plus I was paying another loan from sallie Mae for my cosmetology school back in 2005. He knew that that was too much but he obviously didnt care.
this time I went full time in the morning , meaning I won't be working much. I completed the course! The whole course. And though they never told me this extra classes make up artistry, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, body wrapping, etc was separate from the school. <<<<<< they supposedly schedule them but they never scheduled mine, I had to ask HEY....when do I start my classes. Oh and guess what else they didn't tell me, the class are on the weekends.
I honestly just could not wait to get the hell out Of that school. I took my makeup class and my airbrush class( just one class, I believe there was more to it ) so this is where the finale comes in........
so I bust my a*s at work trying to catch up on my bills, gas, loans ( because my credit score went to crap cause I couldn't afford my bills) I save up the 80$ , and I go get my passport picture taken and drive all the way to boca to give it to the clerk to send my paperwork for my license ........i keep checking the mail for a month then two months. I call her and she tells me: we are not Sending you paperwork out because u owe us money. I told her I'm trying to catch up , but I have an obligation that I'm aware of . I've sacrifice 2 years into this school and financially I struggled but I will pay you guys.....
THIS WOMAN has the audassity to tell me , you took 3 months to bring in your 80., you obliviously don't want that bad.she went on teling me that I'm irresponsible and if I don't pay them $6000 in full I am not getting my license. I was furious I started crying I told her how dare she insult me and I will get a lawyer and hung up.
Years and years have gone but not a day goes by I don't cry or get upset about this, I still owe this debt. And I've tried to find a lawyer but I cannot find anyone for this type of thing. This year I've left boca beauty academy messages, 4 to be exact. And they have not returned my calls. I want my records. And I want to go up there but I am scared of what they will say, will they shoot me down again? What are my rights? Is this right what they did to me? What I'f I go there and nothing gets resolved!? I just came across this website because I was thinking about it and getting upset. I hope I can change someone's mind. This school is crooked. thank you , and good luck
