On 3/8/2014 I began searching the internet for the best travel deals. Of course Bookit.com advertised the best prices, so I decided to use them for my plane and hotel reservations in Puerto Vallarta. Upon trying to book the trip, I noticed that suddenly the flight information was no longer available, yet much more expensive ones were. I wanted to see if this was actually true, so I used my wife's computer (different ip address) and suddenly the deal was available again. I managed to book the trip this time, but now I had an even bigger problem.

Bookit.com had switched my hotel date to one day after it was suppose to be. Before hitting the submit button, I verified the dates (3 times) and I even had my wife verify them behind me. There is NO WAY, I booked my hotel room for a different day than my flight. When I called Bookit.com to fix the problem, I was told that it would cost me another $500 to get the date I wanted and that there was no way their website could've changed the date on me. Yea right!

I refused to pay the extra $500 for their mistake, so I asked to cancel the trip completely (which their website says I can do within 24 hours) and I was told that I could not cancel it!!!!! I had also purchased the trip insurance with this package, but of course this type of thing is not covered on their policy. In addition, since Bookit.com had screwed up the dates when I purchased my trip, the dates were also screwed up on my travel insurance policy. If the travel dates on your policy don't exactly match the travel dates on your itinerary, your claim will be denied.

The only reason I know this is because I used to be a customer service rep for a travel insurance company and we use to get calls like this all the time. Since I knew what to do, I called Travel Guard to correct the dates and the spelling of my wife's name????? I am quite sure that travel insurance companies are in kahootz with online booking companies, since the slimy booking activities make their policies null and void. If there were better regulations in place protecting consumers from this type of activity, and high enough penalties for scam artists, consumers would not be taken advantage of so much!!!!
