Complaint Review: Bourke's Service

Bourke's Service ripoff Custer Park Illinois

  • Reported By:
    Joliet Illinois
  • Submitted:
    Sat, November 08, 2003
  • Updated:
    Fri, February 23, 2007

This company has been servicing my air conditioner for 3 years and this year they serviced it and it started leaking 2 days later and it ruined my newly finished basement and they refuse to take any responsibility for it. I stopped payment on the check I wrote them, but the owner of the company, Vince Bourke, called and threatned me and my family. I want people to be aware of this company and to steer clear of it at all costs.

Head down Vincent...It's quiet time

God Vincent...can you possibly let this go? You sound like a little girl who runs to tattle to the teacher every time a little boy calls her a poopy-head.

As with almost every report filed on these pages, there will be those who support your take and those who support Carey. Somehow, someway...you pissed off a customer. Chalk this whole ordeal up to the occasional pitfalls of running your own business and walk away instead of portraying yourself as a pathetic whiner.

Very fortunate

How fortunate I am for not having to deal with people that use criminal behavior to resolve a problem.

How fortunate I am for not having a customer that refuses to accept personal responsibility for their actions & dilapidated equipment.

How fortunate I am for not having a customer that uses a biased website to libel a company & fabricate mistruths about how she was treated.

Very fortunate indeed!

She's the fortunate one

It looks like she is the fortunate one here. She has the oppurtunity to let others know how she was treated by your company, right or wrong.

Unreasonable person!

Carey's mistruths about her treatment by my company show me how fortunate I am not to have her as a customer.

She responds that she was treated unfairly, but she never once spoke to my company about her re-curring problem with her delapidated HVAC system.

She just stops payment on my check.

Never did she give us an opportunity to resolve her problem.

She unreasonably states that 3 years ago she has let this issue go, but she continues with her tirades about my company.

Carey, you can make all the accusations that you want, but the truth is that you were warned repeatedly about the poor condition of your equipment & chose to do nothing.

You continue to whine about the poor treatment you received when in fact you did nothing to notify me about your problem. ( Other than illegally stopping payment on my check! )

Dealing with unreasonable people is part of doing business. Thank God I don't run into this situation very often in my 24 years of being in business.

The blame was placed where it belongs. Believe me I have talked to several people who feel the same way I do about your business, too bad I didn't talk to them first. The home theater was a gift and also NONE of your business. Maybe you should do your job and not be jealous of other's possessions.

Just found out about this report!

The only reason it took me so long to file a rebuttal is because I was just made aware of your
report.

Had I been aware of this sooner, you can be assured that you would have seen a rebuttal immediately.

This matter could have been avoided long ago if you had taken our advice & purchased a new funace & A/C system.

I don't care in the least with whom you purchased your new furnace & a/c from, but instead of investing huge amounts of money on a home theater system 3 years ago, you could have had a new, leak free, safe energy efficient system.

It's too bad you choose to put the blame on the wrong shoulders for your poor decisions.

Thank-you for the Yule-Tide greetings & the same to you.

By the way, I sleep quite well at night, thank-you.

Wow that was over 3 years ago, let it go.

I just received an email notification about this rebuttal and first I had to laugh. I have let this go a long time ago, but obviously some people can't. Vince, if you can sleep at night after what you did, God bless you. I have a nice NEW furnace and a/c and I love it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Carey is unreasonable.

#12REBUTTAL Owner of company

Carey is unreasonable with her dissatisfaction of our service.

Carey & her husband had been warned repeatedly about the dilapidated condition of their 34 plus year old heating & cooling system.

This system has had a history of leaks going back to the previous owner of the home.

She was told on a number of occasions to replace the air conditioning system because of re-occuring refrigerant leaks & because of the condition of the corroded drain pan in their evaporator coil.

The evaporator coil was in such poor condition, that pieces of the metal evaporator coil drain pan were breaking off & clogging the drain.

We cleaned & checked this air conditioning system & added 2lbs. of freon for a total of $82.00

To expect my company to warranty an air conditioning system that is in such poor condition & having been warned about said condition is unreasonable!

Carey stopped payment on the check without contacting me about the trouble she was having. She did not give us a chance to respond to her problem. In Illinois this is illegal!

The threats she claimed that were made to her & her family are pure fabrications. She refused to return any calls about the stop payment on the check & she only responded after I left a message on her answering machine about the criminal charges that could be bought against her for stopping payment on a check in Illinois.

This complaint was reviewed by the Better
Business Bureau over 3 years ago & dropped because they found no fault in the way this matter was handled by my company.

That is no excuse for the way I was treated

Cry me a river! Give me a break!!! That is no excuse for the way I was treated and I don't think any person would expect their a/c to leak 2 days after it was cleaned and serviced if it was done correctly. I applaud you though for taking care of your customers unlike Vince Bourke did.

Drains are a big problem for HVAC contractors

#12Consumer Comment

Thu, November 13, 2003

This is exactly the reason that HVAC contractors need to charge higher rates to make ends meet. All it takes is one mistake and we will be paying thousands to replace a floor, ceiling or whatever. Most contractors will not involve an insurance company because their general liability insurance will go up or cancel them. Drains have a bad habit of clogging up after a maintenance. Most techs throw a few drain tabs in the pan.
Most of the time this will take care of the problem. However, sometimes the tabs will break up loose material that is stuck in the lines and cause a clog. My invoices clearly state in bold that drains and secondary damage are not covered under warranty.
Even though my invoices have that exclusion, I have replaced some floors and made ceiling repairs for customers.
