Complaint Review: Boutique Kittens

First off, let me say that I have had cats all of my life. 

 My God Parents sent me a link to the Boutique Kittens website www.boutiquekittens.com and asked if I was still looking for a kitten. I am handicapped and recruited them to help me find another cat/kitten. I have an older cat that is on her last leg and thought a kitten may help keep her more active. 

Kathi at Boutique Kittens had an adult cat, that had apparently come back, due to a marital separation. She sent them older pictures and said she did not have any newer ones. She was unable to take any, as she is in the process of moving to Indiana. She did say he came back with some matting that she was working on.

The cat was sweet looking in the pictures and I didn't care if it was an adult or not. I went ahead and set up a date to meet with her. She would not meet at her house...should have been a clue. We met at Alameda East, where I was able to meet the cat. 

The cat was in a Kennel and scared to death, so I didn't want to scare it to death and drag it out. I noted that he was seemingly mellow, but had some nicks where he had been shaved. He looked homely with his hair half gone, but seemed sweet.

I bought the cat, and was told the papers and the shots records were under the cat bed in the carrier. 

I got the cat home and had set up an area where he would feel safe. I took him out, and to my horror he was knicked and cut all over from the Kathi shaving him and not knowing how. He had over 30 lacerations all over his poor body. I immediately put antibiotic ointment on all of his wounds. He was bothered by me touching him, as it was open skin.

I then noted that there was only the health cert form from when he had been sent back, and a Rabies shot record...nothing else. 

My god parents contacted Kathi regarding all of these issues and got nowhere. Kathi finally called me (I'm a little timid) and asked what the problem was. i told her I was appalled at the condition of the cat....more like horrified! She said she had been working on the cat and he was bad, but that he had come back that way. 

This was a lie, as I spoke to the former owner and he had come back matted, but she had obviously left him that way. The cats hair was matted an inch thick from the skin, and it was apparent that she had just shaved him. His legs still had the matting and it was probably one of the worst cases I've seen. 

She thought there was nothing wrong with shaving the cat and cutting him over 30 times. she said she didn't want to stress him. 

I asked about the papers and she said she would not give them to me until he was neutered...there is an area on the papers stating he is not for breeding. I wanted to know more about the cat, whether he was purebred or not, as I wonder. I was also told they were there!

I then asked her about his health. She stated that she had no idea of what his health was. I was floored, as her site states the following: 
 Any new cats brought into our home are quarantined for one month so that we can bathe them and test them for FIV and FeLV. 
He had not been tested for any of this, nor had he been properly groomed. She brought a cat back into a cattery and didn't test him? 

I confronted her on all of this, and she seems to think that all of this is okay. I would be aware about her practices and go somewhere else. I truly believe this cat went back to her and sat in a cage somewhere, and that's it. 

She did offer to take the cat back...but that's NOT HAPPENING IN THIS LIFETIME!!!
