Account with BP-Citi Amoco card paid off in a settlement agreement in 12/02. In 1/05, I go for refinancing and find a collection acct with a balance from BP-Citi for the remainder which was supposed to be settled! I call and find out because my check from the title company was late, they did not accept the settlement-but took the check as a payment instead. This was years later. When I asked why wasnt I notified before now that the settlement wasnt accepted-I was told, its not their responsibility. But how am I responsible for a bill that I thought was paid in full via settlement? They said it is my job to find out. After calling several times, no one will let me speak with a manager/supervisor, I've been told to dispute it with the title company. Whats the point of agreeing to a settlement if the company can say-never mind, we will just take payment now because it is late. What responsibility does the company have to notify the consumer of debt? None according to the customer service rep.

Anyone with suggestions on how to get this settlement reinstated?
