Complaint Review: BP/CITI

BP/CITI Unauthorized charges on credit card by BP Wilmington Delaware

  • Reported By:
    Durham North Carolina
  • Submitted:
    Tue, May 18, 2004
  • Updated:
    Wed, May 19, 2004

BP made unauthorized charges on my charge card. When the bill was received, I called them and asked that they be removed. The next month, the charges were still on the bill.

Finally charges were removed, but found out that the information was turned in to the credit bureau.

I closed the accounts because of the unauthorized charges.

#2Consumer Suggestion

Tue, May 18, 2004

Please send each credit reporting agency a certified letter (w/ return receipt requested) stating the the charges on the account were incorrect and removed by the company on such and such date. In your letter, please include a copy of the bill with the erroneous charges and the bill with the charges removed. Each reporting agency will have to remove the negative comment for one of two reasons: (1) It is against the Fair Credit Reporting Act for a creditor to post negative comments on a consumer's credit report while the billing statement is in active dispute and (2) the company has since reverse their erroneous charges and you have a new statement to prove it.

Good luck!!!
