I really don't understand what happened to my bank account this month. I have visited the branch three different times this month, and I spoke to two different bank representitives on several different occassions and they even had trouble trying to figure out what has happened.

This month alone I have made $5,142.70 in deposits, I spent $3,919.43 in purchases and paying bills, and I had $1,278.00 in overdraft charges. I am so confused I don't know how it happened. Every time I make a deposit I get another overdraft fee and I'm back in the hole again, and I started the month out in the positive.

The reason I and the representitives I spoke to can't get the account figured out is because they bunch several charges into one lump sum instead of listing one nsf fee with one overdraft item. The way this is done it makes it impossible for customer's to keep track of how much they are being charged.

Every time I make a deposit it is held for seven days because I don't have the money in the account to cover the check and I end up with more charges. I borrowed money from my 401k to clear up this account and that check was held for seven days and I was charged more fee's. I borrowed money from my sister and a friend and their checks were held for seven days again I was charged more fee's.

When will this highway robbery of innocent people stop?? Times are hard and I'm on disability right now from work and the NSF fee's alone this month took almost my whole check. And they continue to hold my disability checks for seven days. I intend to close my account this month and just put my money under my mattress, it's safer that way and at least I know where it is.

Is anyone going to stand up and help the poor innocent people of this country from being taken to the cleaners by corporate america??

Why do you keep spending money?

IF you KNOW that the bank holds the deposits for seven days (which they DO have a legal right to do), then WHY do you continue to write checks before that time?

Call, write, email, or fax the Commissioner of Banks in your state. BB&T is allowed by law to hold and post items " at their discretion". Yes, they should be allowed to hold a check until they know it's good. However, they should be required to deduct items as soon as they know the amount authorized, instead of holding it for several days , and they should honor all posting dates on withdrawal tickets.
FIGHT BACK! DEMAND the laws be changed.

And just because there are a "zillion" RoRs in regards to banks doesn't automatically mean they are in the wrong.

The bank has the right to hold deposits for verification of funds, and more so recently with the check cashing scams that seem to be occuring more often than they used to. (look even here about companies that offer to send you a check and you have to send them some kind of smaller payment in return). More often than not now, the account will be legit, they will clear the funds quickly, and then the account holder bounces the fraudulent check, causing the depositor's bank to reverse it. Well, usually the money's gone by now...and if the depositor can't pay it back, or declares BK, who has to pay for it?

The bank. Which either has to fire someone or get the revenue to cover it.

They aren't doing anything wrong by following a procedure that is the same for their customers. You can get overdrafts because of both non-sufficient funds and unavailable funds - the latter from holds on deposits.

I read the one of you amongst a myriad of complaints stated that we shoud just buck up and get more money in our accounts and solve our own issues of not incurring overdraft fees.

Allow me voice my thoughts.

Obviously you work for the bank - that is apparent when there are a rash of complaints and your silly little explanation stands out like a thimble full of water in an sea of evidence.

We ARE doing our best to get checks deposited and things paid to our vendors in a timely manner.

So Mr. or Mrs. BB & T, when you blame your own customers, with your immature, illegal theft way of doing things, keep in mind, it's us struggling new businesses that make up America and are lining your fat pockets with your smug head full of assumptions.

The reason people are going broke is because BB & T is stealing.

How can ANYONE grow a business or a savings account when our own bank is a -PREDATOR and you have watch within your own camp not to be ruined.

Just remember - there IS a Judgement Day and your way of blaming every one who is trying their best to do good deed by keeping economy flowing with businesses, sweating their asses off to make a living, and giving a hard time to those that are coming on this site for direction, will stand before a blazing eyed God who will be all ears to hear your excuses.

There is no way you can go up against a zillion of us who are honest, and doing what we know how and stand a chance.

I have filed with the better busines bureau against BB & T, am in a class action suit against them, and am considering selling my business in order to pay for all te headache that this bank has brought to me as a brand new customer.

HAve a nice day and sleep well knowing just how nice that day before God will be for you!

I have had nothing but great experiences with BB&T Bank. They have taken care of me time and time again. My suggestion is that you pull your account to current and get overdfraft protection. It is not the Bank's Fault that people overdraft their account. Another suggestion is that you cash your checks at the bank where the check is drawn from, and then deposit the cash into your account. This will prevent you from having to wait on funds to post to you account.

First....join a credit union if you are eligible. Anyone who lives in greater Louisville is eligible to join the L&N Credit Union....Credit Unions are generally better than banks.

I'd advise paying all bills with money orders...only take out the case that you need to basic expenses and money orders for bills. Get rid of ALL auto-debits on your checking account....Stop using debit cards....Yes, it may be a pain, but it will stop NSF fees.

'The reason I and the representitives I spoke to can't get the account figured out is because they bunch several charges into one lump sum instead of listing one nsf fee with one overdraft item.'

The real reason is you don't have an accurate register kept to prove your case. Hence, why you continually overdraft.
