Okay, let's be real here folks. Did your puppy come with registration papers? If so, what did they say? I am willing to bet they said BULLDOG. Not 'mini' bulldog. I found 1, yes one club and registry for 'mini' bulldogs. They deal ONLY in 'mini' bulldogs. They started it themselves. Most ethical and responsible breeders, while they may produce some dogs that are smaller, will TELL you they are still just smaller bulldogs. My friend has been breeding for several years, she DOES have 45 pound dogs. Any time she has a pup which is clearly VERY small, and looks like it will remain that way, numerous health tests are run to ensure it is not a liver shunt or some other such thing that has caused the small size before placing the pup. One of the most recent is like 27 pounds at a year and a half, definantly not kept for breeding purposes. The point? Never, Never, has someone been told ANY of the dog's are 'mini'. This would be dishonest and unethical, as she breeds AKC registerable BULLDOGS. We make sure to educate folks who are being sucked in to this, and therefor opening the door to unethical sellers. Also, let's be realistic, lets say this was an actual breed. Even RECKOGNISED breeds whom have been bred to a consistant standard for HUNDREDS of years still have characteristics that pop up from one of the parent breeds here and there. So, if the general consenses is that this 'breed' began to be developed in the 1980's, what can you honestly expect? They have only been trying to breed the bulldog down for the last less than 30 years. Of course larger dogs are going to pop up even in lines that are consistantly small, it's called genetics. I know someone that spent 30+ years getting her chows (english) down to the 25 to 40 pound range, but these dogs were not sold as 'mini' chows, and there were some that DID go bigger. It's NATURE. So, what does your paperwork say? Is there a size guarantee? You definantly have grounds on the puppy paid for but not recieved, but how exactly are you going to prove that you purchased a breed which does not exist unless certain things are specified in your contract? Unless, of course, as I have seen many times, the paperwork says one thing, and your puppy is actually a bulldog MIX. I have seen WAY to many of these 'mini' bulldogs that have a very suspicious many characteristics in temperment and looks of the FRENCH bulldog. So that is an option for you folks as well. See if the DNA matches your paperwork. Do your research before you decide to purchase this 'breed', so you can know what to reasonably expect, and exactly whom you can and can not trust. And always read your contract.
