I have been renting from Brewer Caldwell for over a year now. From the very first day, I was inconvenienced by their salesman, who by the way, knew my family and I were relocating from Pennsylvania to Arizona. We had several conversation with him before we actually left PA and were confident everything would go smoothly when we arrived. When we did arrive, this salesman was out to lunch, so we were instructed he would be back shortly. We arrived at roughly 1pm, the salesman did not show until almost 5pm. In the meantime, my family and I sat in a Penske truck in the BC parking lot in the heat of Arizona with 3 children. Finally, he showed, but was not prepared for us at all. I had chosen a property before I left PA, paid the deposit via cashiers check but when he met with us after making us wait for over 4 hours, the property had not yet been approved.

To make a long story short, we finally, after viewing another property that was supposed to be a 3 bdrm and turned out to be a 2 bdrm, got the home we asked for and started to move in after 9pm. We were then instructed to come back to their office, which was over an hour away to sign another lease to match the home we finally moved into and to also put additional monies on this property as the owner wanted more for the move in. I was not please but paid as we had no other choice and BC new it!

We were not given a move in manual, we were not spoken to about details of the lease as it was done within minutes just to get us out of the office. Again, I am from PA where HOA violations do not exist. I received a bill stating I was being charged for weeds in my yard. What for?? I had no idea AZ charged for weeds as no one from BC ever told us that since we never recieved a move in hand book. We were also charged for leaving our trash recepticle on the side walk on a non trash day, for days we were not even living on the property. This happened twice, as were also charged for the trash recepticle for our neighbors trash can. BC has a rule they will not accept your rent check if it is not for the full amount that you owe including these bogus fees. I paid my rent in full but incurred late fees for not paying the incorrect charges as well. Then, to top it all off, they sent me a court notice for eviction because I short paid. These were their erroneous charges and they still expected for me to pay them. They stated they could always give me a credit after an investigation but in the meantime, I did not have over $1,500.00 to pay in court fees, late fees and itemized incorrect charges. I had no other choice but to pay and they did give me a credit, MONTHS later and only a fraction of what I had paid to them and only after I threatened to go to BBB and file charges for unfair business practices.

My water line busted, I attempted to call their "emergency line" and it was disconnected. Therefore, I went three days with no water and when my husband attempted to fix it, we went another 3 days with very little water pressure. We were told by BC to give them the receipts and they would reimburse us for the repairs but NEVER sent anyone out to fix the problem. My neigbor, who just so happens to be a handy man, finally offered to fix the problem for us.

You would think I would have learned my lesson and moved on with another management company after all of this with BC, but I didn't. My lease expired in February and I am now currently renting from them again. Why, I don't know. The benefit of the doubt maybe? Now, they inspected the prior home after I moved out and they claim it was filthy when I moved out. I have letters of recommendation from other properties I have lived in that have used my home as a "model" for prospective renters. This is how clean I truly am. They have ultimately insulted me by stating the house was DIRTY upon their inspection when I cleaned all weekend and even mopped us out of the home so there were no foot prints on the floor. BC will find anything to charge you for so they do not have to repay deposits. I am disgusted with BC and cannot wait until my lease is up so I can move and get away from Brewer Caldwell. I do not recommend them in the least and would never wish this type of stress on anyone.

I am a previous tennant that got sucked into another lease on a different property w/BC just like you. Definitely against my better judgement. It was my worst nightmare and we are still dealing with it. Our issues are similar to yours even going beyond to our personal property being stolen from maintenance before our lease was up! Please contact me asap to discuss further. We are pursuing legal action and am interested to see that we are not the only vicitms!
