Complaint Review: bricktrainshop.com

bricktrainshop.com deceptive descriptions of item - do not list that the item is just a "manual" and not the set. Pictures are not of the actual item sold, but of the set they come from. Hemet, California

We were having trouble finding stock on a Lego Set. However, after lots of looking, I stumbled on http://www.bricktrainshop.com. They claimed to have 6 sets available and a ridiculously low price. A bit skeptical of whether or not it was new, we decided that even used, $8 was a good price.

I carefully read all the available descrptions on the site (pasted below).

What we got, was a manual for the set. A little instruction booklet that tells you how to assemble the Lego set (should you already own one).

There was absolutely nothing that indicated this was a manual. The Product Image below shows the set. The part number listed in the Product description is of actual Lego Blocks and not a manual.

They charge a restocking fee if you want to return the item. Not worth the postage.

Also a victim of deceptive selling practices

#8Consumer Suggestion

I also filed a report here: http://www.ripoffreport.com/toy-stores/bricktrainshop-com/bricktrainshop-com-fraud-mis-3fca7.htm for the same problem. Let's face it, a lousy partial refund is not going to make me feel any better - he wants $5.00 plus he won't pay for the shipping, so obviously, it's not worth the trouble to return the item. Anyway, it's not the money, it's the honor. This kind of fraud needs to be stopped. Another victim just contacted me this morning with a great idea.  We think everyone that has ever had the same complaint needs to take the next step and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, like I did, and with the proper government agencies to put a stop to deceptive selling practices.

I urge you to take that next step with me and all the others that have been burned by this company. It wasn't my idea, but I'm willing to help spread the word. If you can do the same, that would be great - respond to other complaints if you can, and file your own complaints with the .gov sites and the BBB. I think we can all finally take a stand for consumers so that this company and others like it, cannot continue to make a living at our expense.

I see you like to argue and are misinformed

The entire Indiana Jones series was retired.  You can not buy the set from Lego.com as you state.  It is no longer available.  What the set used to sell for and any sales that used to be were then, this is now.  When a set is retired its value and price increase dramatically based on the popularity of the set and the prediction of how many people will be hunting for this set later on.

As with all orders you purchase on line from a vendor, the shipping is never counted.  this is like counting sales tax.  You are  trying to make something out of nothing.  If you are fair and impartial person you would address our previous questions and statements regarding the fact that the item was listed in the Instructions Category of the Store (not lego sets) that it also said Instruction Manuals in line 2 of the description.

Where are the reviews of the customers who purchased Instruction Manuals and left a 5 star review because they received exactly what they wanted?

I see no mention of that in your ranting.  We sell thousands of Instruction Manuals to set that are retired for people who have lost theirs or are looking to build the set out of parts they have.  It is not our fault that a handful of customers, and I mean handful, less then 20 out of 80,000 failed to read the listing. Customers like this are the reason businesses have to list BED NOT INCLUDED when they are selling sheets for $20.00

Even More Lies - Retail Price at Lego.com is $19.99 for the SET & More "reviews" of BrickTrainShop.com

Lego's online shop lists the set as $19.99. My math is not off. Attached is an actual screen shot of http://shop.lego.com taken on 3-28-2010. Toys-R-US sells for $24.99.

Not even close to the $100 you claim which is just another testimony to the unethical tactics BrickTrainShip.com uses.

Here are more testimonies found on line about BrickTrainShop.com

I wish I had read these reviews before ordering. I had a similar experience to others here. Thought I was ordering a complete Lego set (there was a picture and description of the whole set), but was only sent an instruction manual. Tried to contact the company by phone and email, but got no response.

Google Checkout Reviews - Randy - Mar 18, 2010

It was not clear that these were instructions only. We thought we were getting the lego set, not just the instructions. I would not have paid over $5 total for nothing but some instructions for a kit we didn't even have.

Google Checkout Reviews - A Shopper - Mar 5, 2010

Online listing/photo of product appeared to show a Lego set, which my son was seeking and which I ordered for him. What we received, however, were instructions for the Lego set, not the Lego set itself. I thought this was highly deceptive and a poor sales tactic. If you are considering purchasing product from BrickTrainShop.com, be careful to make sure you understand what you are purchasing. We did contact seller about this purchase but did not receive reply.

Google Checkout Reviews - A Shopper - Mar 4, 2010

The advertisement was misleading and the product received was no as expected. An email to the company voicing that concern was not addressed.

Google Checkout Reviews - A Shopper - Mar 4, 2010

This was the instruction manual, not the set like it leads you to believe

Google Checkout Reviews - Suzanne - Feb 22, 2010

I am sure the Lego set discription in the website makes people confused:
It is talking about the lego set itself but they sells the instruction (small booklet) $3.80 + $2.84 shipping. ($6.64) It is totally nonsense. I lost time and money. I will never buy any product from the seller.

The cost of the Instruction Manual was $3.60 the actual set sells for over $100.00 you are claiming $8.00 for the book.  Then claim you are off a Dollar.  You are off by $4.40

Couldnt help but notice that the bottom portion of the rebuttal which shows the listing description as it is on the site was shall we say accidentally cut off.

I'd also like to ad that I looked up this particular order and the cost is 3.60 not 8.00 as stated by the customer.

Mistakes Happen

#8REBUTTAL Owner of company

We have been in business for over 14 years and sell every aspect of Lego.  Anybody who collects Lego knows that all aspects of a set are valuable.  We sell the sets, the individual bricks to the set, the original box, the instruction manuals, all of it.  Even the free catalogs sent out by Lego are worth money after so many years have passed.

Your purchase was made in our LEGO INSTRUCTIONS Category of our store not the LEGO SETS Category, this was also stated at the top of the page that you have omitted from your listing here.  Your original listing had this at the top when you made your purchase.

Store -> LEGO

INSTRUCTIONS
-> Indiana Jones

We strive to fulfill every order with accuracy.  We have processed over 100,000 orders in 2009 and sold over 8000 Instruction Manuals.  We can not determine who wanted the Manual to a retired set that is worth over 90.00 and who has made a mistake.

This is why we offer a refund on all returned merchandise and 80% of the time we waive the restocking fee.  Our 10% restocking fee is for the handling and processing of this order return.  It amounts to an average of .60 cents which we feel is fair.

You did not contact us nor did you return the product to us.  Instead you spent your time filing a complaint.  How can we help fix a problem if you will not let us fix the problem?  The facts of the case are that you did not read the listing, rather you read the title only.  Why are the Manuals labeled by the set number?  Because Lego labeled them that way, not us.  If you want the set it is described as #7196 Set, the instructions are #7196 Instructions the box is #7196 Box this is all issued by Lego.

We can not anticipate every customers unique needs.  We are a Lego Collectibles Site for all sets and parts RETIRED from Lego.  We also sell Thomas the Tank sheets but I refuse to put a disclaimer on them stating that the bed is not included that the sheets are on.

Your description of the set has also been creatively edited to omit the following that was at the top of the listing...
