On December 19, 2008 I received a check in the mail for $4,900.00. A letter came with the check stating that as a result of the British Columbia Consumer Lottery held on August 18, 2008, I had won $85,000.00. The letter went on to give the sweepstake# as well as the winning numbers. The letter explained that the reason I was given a check for $4,900.00 was to cover the "mandatory 3.5% government tax" from my winnings.

I was also given a number to call, a man by the name of Phil Morrison and that once the tax fee was paid, the remainder of my prize, $80,100 would be delivered by FedEx or UPS within 48 hours.

Now the problem here is that the check looks completely real. I doubt the bank could even tell the difference until it was too late. The thing that caught my attention is that the letter says this is a Holiday Raffle from the British Columbia Consumer Lottery but the contact information is in Texas. Also, the check has Cascade Gasket & Mfg Company on it.

Now Cascade is a real company as far as I can tell but what would they have to do with the British Columbia Lottery? Nothing! The letter gave a website: www.bclc.com which is the website to the British Columbia Lottery. I checked their website for drawings and there was no drawing on August 18th as the letter stated. Maybe whoever is doing this scam does not think that anyone will actually go that far.

I checked the internet and did not find any information on scams like this so was beginning to believe it was real until I found similar but not exactly the same info on Ripoff Report. It appears that this scammer uses different lottery names and agents but is using Cascade Gasket on the checks for whatever reason. I'm not even gonna bother calling this because I already know it's crap.

If you get anything like this STAY AWAY. It is a total scam and I feel really bad for the person that trusts these people.
